We are seeking a Per Diem Certified Nurse Midwife for a growing practice serving the South Shore of Boston, Cape Cod and Islands.
The Staff Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) functions in a collaborative relationship with the physician team. The CNM will provide health care services for women from adolescence beyond menopause. These services include the independent provision of gynecologic, family planning; preconception, pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum care. Services may also include treatment of sexual partners for sexually transmitted infections. In the context of providing midwifery care, the midwife may need to consult with other members of the healthcare team to provide the following patterns of care when additional expertise is necessary to meet the health care needs of the individual to whom care is being provided.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Provides direct prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum and/or well women patient services obstetrical and gynecological patients.
2. Participates in the education of medical, midwifery, nursing students, clinical staff, residents, fellows, peers and others.
3. Participates in Division and/or other research and on-going Quality Assurance or Improvement activities.
4. Participates in Obstetric Department, and Divisional activities, professional organizations, and community outreach/service activities.
5. Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.
6. Will participate in a 24/7 call coverage system for the BirthPlace labor/delivery/postpartum unit, dividing between the available staff CNMs
7. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements
8. Master's degree in Nursing;
9. Certification/Licensure A Massachusetts APN/CNM nursing License (or eligible). Participation in the Certificate Maintenance Program with the American Midwifery Certification Board (or eligible).
10. Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

11. Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
12. Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.
13. Knowledge of midwifery theory, procedure and standards.
14. Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate individual patient care programs.
15. Ability to perform patient assessment and triage.
16. Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.
17. Knowledge of gynecological health issues and trends.
18. Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
Conditions of Employment
19. May be required to submit to annual TB and rubella screening.
20. Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
21. May be subject to credentialing process; must maintain credentialed status, if applicable.
22. Must maintain certification status.
23. Working Conditions and Physical Effort
24. Moderate physical activity; which may include standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
25. Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
26. Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office/hospital work environment.
27. Will work with blood or blood-borne pathogens
