Overview
The role requires a good understanding of media operations, XML and metadata handling, AWS fundamentals, and how configuration changes move through Git-based deployment processes. The successful candidate should be comfortable debugging issues, making safe product or workflow changes, and supporting both internally built services and third-party media products running within AWS, including Cloud Playout components such as BCNEXXT Vipe. Specific detailed product knowledge is not necessary as this can be learnt. Basic Python knowledge is helpful for workflow logic, Lambda support, and troubleshooting rather than full software development.
Accountabilities
1. Install, test, analyse, troubleshoot and modify new Audio & Video processing equipment/solutions to achieve maximum performance and availability.
2. Provide technical knowledge to the development and deployment of Audio & Video processing service infrastructure, driving improved technical and service performance.
3. Design and drive processes to facilitate smooth and seamless deployment of new Audio & Video processing services.
4. Design, develop, and implement Audio & Video processing systems and solutions for broadcast and satellite communications, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
5. Supervise the delivery of 3rd party suppliers and contractors to ensure that delivery specifications and standards meet Arqiva requirements.
6. Standardise equipment to minimise disruption and achieve straightforward integration with existing networks/infrastructure.
7. Document Audio & Video processing build procedures and contribute to the continuous improvement of policies, processes and procedures.
8. Apply standard procedures to solve problems and identify appropriate resolution.
9. Adopt the role of Design Authority (DA) in area of Audio & Video processing expertise to ensure the delivery of the end-to-end customer solution and for less complex projects Lead Design Authority (LDA).
10. Bring a commercial perspective to the operation, with a particular focus on cash management, cash preservation and optimising returns on investments made in assets and tools.
11. Contribute to accurate forecasting and capacity management for broadcast.
12. Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product development, network engineering, and field operations, to support the deployment and optimisation of Audio & Video processing technologies.
13. Stay updated with the latest advancements in Audio & Video processing technologies and industry trends.
14. Drive collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement within Audio & Video processing engineering.
15. Provide technical leadership within the team, sharing knowledge and skills and providing mentoring support to engineers and technicians.
16. Act as an escalation point for troubleshooting from junior engineers.
17. Support integration projects for legacy systems and cloud-based solutions
Must have
18. Strong understanding of media workflows and product configuration across VOD or Playout environments:
19. Experience supporting workflow setup, metadata handling, service onboarding, and operational change across media platforms
20. Good working knowledge of XML or similar structured configuration formats
21. AWS fundamentals for deployment, operations, and troubleshooting: Lambda, Step Functions, S3, EventBridge, IAM, and related service basics
22. Partner, vendor, and service integration experience, for example: FTP, SFTP, Apple Transporter, secure cross-system file exchange, and vendor connectivity patterns
23. Media operations knowledge relevant to VOD and Playout: Understanding of media processing, metadata, scheduling or playlist-driven workflows, subtitle handling, and operational controls across cloud media systems
24. Git-based deployment and configuration workflow knowledge: Understanding of CI/CD processes and how configuration changes are promoted through environments
Nice to have
25. Basic Python knowledge: Useful for workflow logic, Lambda support, and troubleshooting, but not the primary focus of the role
26. Infrastructure as Code knowledge: Terraform/Terragrunt preferred for infrastructure and environment configuration
27. The ability to “reverse engineer” requirements from legacy systems to help define configuration requirements
28. Exposure to Cloud Playout concepts such as schedules, playlists, event-driven controls, or channel operations
29. Experience working with third-party cloud media products hosted in AWS, such as BCNEXXT Vipe or similar vendor platforms
Please note that the successful candidate will be required to successfully undergo UK Security Clearance and must have been resident within the UK for at least five years.
