We are seeking a dynamic and inspirational teacher of Design & Technology to join a popular department within our teaching team. Department Details The department is comprised of two full-time and one part-time teaching staff and one full time technician. In principal, all staff will teach across the full age range, including SQA National 5, Higher and AQA A-Level. Staff are encouraged to continue developing their subject knowledge and skills through both internal training and outside courses. Curriculum offered and the organisation of teaching groups All P7 and S1 classes are in the department for one period a week throughout the year. This increases to 3 periods a fortnight in S2, during which time the pupils make their N5 subject choices. We currently offer Design & Manufacture and Practical Woodwork. Next year we have three classes in S3 (two Design & Manufacture, one Practical Woodwork) and two classes in S4 (both Design & Manufacture). Post 16, we deliver SQA Higher Design & Manufacture in S5 and AQA A-level Product Design in S6. We also offer an NPA in Jewellery in the senior years. Enrichment/Co-Curricular Activities Outside of lessons, many pupils chose to spend time within the department, with pupils undertaking lower school project work and senior school assignments. The department is in its second year of participation in the international STEM competition, F1 in Schools, with three teams currently aiming to compete in the Scottish Final later this year. Accommodation and Resources The department consists of two classrooms, two well-equipped workshops and a fully equipped Jewellery/Silversmithing Studio. The technician has a room within the workshop area and is very much part of the team. Staff are allocated a personal iPad and a computer in the shared department office space. The School consists of a Senior School, Junior School and a Nursery Department. The School is a member of HMC. The Edinburgh Academy moved to full co-education across the whole school in 2008. The Junior and Senior Schools are on separate sites, both of which have spacious grounds and sports facilities including extensive playing fields, an all-weather sports area, and a large Sports Hall and Centre.
