The Trust is seeking to appoint two substantive Consultant Gastroenterologists: one with an interest in Hepatology and another with an interest in luminal Gastroenterology. These appointments will join the existing team of 16 Gastroenterologists. The post holders will work across the Trust’s three sites: Andover War Memorial Hospital, Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, and the Royal Hampshire County Hospital.
The current consultants specialize in upper and lower therapeutic endoscopy, inflammatory bowel disease, hepatology, nutrition, pancreatobiliary, and motility/functional disease. Services include bowel cancer screening, ERCP, SpyGlass, endoscopic ultrasound, advanced GI physiology, and capsule endoscopy.
The post involves inpatient gastroenterology and GIM duties, with approximately 1:9 on-call for acute GI bleeds, alongside a 7-day inpatient service in Basingstoke, reviewing new admissions requiring Gastroenterology input over weekends.
Main duties of the job
Location
The Consultant Gastroenterologist will provide service across the entire Trust, requiring cross-site working. The service offers inpatient Gastroenterology at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital and the Royal Hampshire County Hospital. Fully equipped, JAG-accredited endoscopy suites are available at all three sites, supporting bowel cancer screening, ERCP, EUS, and interventional procedures. Outpatient clinics are held at all sites, including Alton Community Hospital.
Support includes full secretarial and administrative staff, dedicated office space, and IT facilities for each consultant.

Management
The Trust has three Clinical Divisions, each managed by a Medical Director supported by operational and financial managers. Operational management is devolved to Divisional Management Boards, with close liaison encouraged between consultants and their Divisional Directors to resolve operational issues. Each Divisional Director is part of the Trust Executive Board, chaired by the Chief Executive.

Person specification
Professional Qualifications
* MBBS or equivalent
* MRCP
* Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register, or within 6 months of completing CCT at the time of interview
* Full GMC registration
* Higher degree (e.g., MD, PhD)
* UK training in GI/hepatology
* Previous NHS experience
Clinical Experience and Knowledge
* Broad experience in Gastroenterology and endoscopy
* JAG accreditation in upper and lower endoscopy
* Ability to manage acute GI bleeding patients
* Evidence of research and audit
