About the Role
We are looking for a motivated and reliable Trainee Pipelayer to join our civil engineering and groundworks team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to start a long-term career within the construction industry.
As a Trainee Pipelayer, you will work alongside experienced operatives and supervisors on a variety of civil engineering, drainage and groundworks projects. You will learn how to install underground drainage systems, water pipes, ducting and associated infrastructure safely and to specification.
No previous pipelaying experience is required, although any experience within construction, labouring, groundworks or civil engineering would be beneficial.
Key Responsibilities
Under the guidance of experienced team members, you will:
* Assist with the installation of drainage, sewer, water and ducting systems
* Help prepare trenches and excavations for pipe installation
* Learn how to lay pipes to the correct line and level using laser levels and site drawings
* Support with bedding, backfilling and compacting around pipework
* Assist in loading, unloading and moving materials, tools and plant around site
* Work with kerbing, manholes, chambers and associated groundworks where required
* Help maintain a safe and tidy working environment at all times
* Follow site drawings, specifications and instructions from supervisors
* Learn and follow all health, safety and environmental procedures
* Carry out manual handling and general labouring duties as required
* Support the wider groundworks and civils team when needed
Training and Development
This role is designed for someone who wants to build a career in the industry. Full training will be provided, including:
* Pipe laying and drainage installation techniques
* Reading site plans and construction drawings
* Use of levels, lasers and measuring equipment
* Safe working in excavations and around plant machinery
* Health and safety awareness
* Opportunity to gain recognised industry qualifications and tickets
* Ongoing mentoring from experienced pipelayers and site supervisors
Potential future progression may include:
* Skilled Pipelayer
* Groundworker
* Foreman or Site Manager
Requirements
The successful candidate will:
* Have a strong work ethic and willingness to learn
* Be punctual, dependable and able to work as part of a team
* Be physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
* Have good communication skills
* Be willing to travel to different sites if required
* Have a positive attitude towards health and safetyBe able to follow instructions and learn new skills quickly
Desirable but Not Essential
* Previous experience in construction, labouring, groundworks or civils
* Full UK driving licence and own transport or ability to get to central points in Colchester / Ipswich.
* Any relevant tickets or certificates.

Working Hours
Typical working hours are:
* Monday to Friday
* 7:00am to 5:00pm (may vary depending on site requirements)
* Occasional weekend or overtime work may be available
