GBR Recruitment Ltd are proudly working in an exclusivity deal with a rapidly expanding chilled / ambient warehouse & logistics business, who are recruiting for an experienced Transport General Manager (National CPC qualified & desirably IOSH qualified too), to ensure that the transport department operates in a highly efficient, cost effective lean manner, meeting customer SLA's & ensuring the transport operation runs in a legal compliant manner at all times, along with maximising operational efficiencies, plus wherever possible increasing revenue levels / streams & increased profit margins within a highly competitive market place.
You will be a transport & logistics professional with GM level experience, as well as having had previous exposure within the food, fresh produce & short shelf life products industries, ensuring products arrive on time & depart on time to the end using customer.
Ideally you will have worked with the Big 4 food retailers & other leading businesses.
BRC legislation knowledge & experience is also desirable, as in this role due to their customer base these are the standards the company must adhere to.

Duties:
* Leading the transport team through effective management and motivation to ensure the safe and efficient running of the site including drivers, transport office, warehouse and yard staff.
* To ensure that the operational system (Enterprise) is kept up to date at all times and is operated correctly to ensure accurate data is recorded and available at all times. To ensure that operational paperwork and systems match.
* Ensuring that non-conformances noted on external and internal audits, inspections and routine checks are investigated and rectified in a professional and timely manner.
* Ensuring all requests made by Management, Customers, Suppliers and staff are dealt with in a professional manner and without delay.
* To support your operational staff to ensure all inbound and outbound loads are delivered and collected in accordance with customer service level agreements and company plan.
* Driving process improvements ensuring Key Performance Indicators are met and where possible exceeded and reasons for non-adherence notified to senior management and customers in a timely manner.
* To ensure resources (fleet and manpower) are sourced accordingly to deliver the volume forecasts. To effectively manage the rota, absence, staff holidays and payroll.
* To ensure that Subcontractors and agency staff operate in accordance with the companies Procedures and Policies. To control and sign off agency spend.
* To ensure that general administrational duties (POD’s returns etc) are recorded and returned in a timely manner and in accordance with the customers service level agreement.
* To liaise with Commercial Managers and Customer Services to ensure that all issues and concerns are notified to all interested parties in a professional and timely manner.
* To ensure that the sites accreditation to the BRCGS Standard is maintained at all times in relation to anything associated with transport.
* To ensure staff operate in a safe manner at all times and in accordance with health and safety legislation. Ensure all persons driving, using equipment; operating machinery are licenced and are authorised to operate it.
* To ensure legal compliance with EU Legislation, Drivers Hours, Working Time Directive and Operators Licence
* To lead the people agenda by ensuring all staff are inducted, appraised and operate in a professional manner at all times. To complete disciplinaries, one-to-one interviews, absence management, probationary reviews and staff welfare and performance meetings as required.
* Ensuring that all accidents, incidents, near-misses and complaints are investigated and reported within a timely manner.
* To have an effective working relationship with the vehicle workshop to ensure vehicle servicing, defects and VOR’s are dealt with in a professional manner.
* To identify the business requirements for change resulting in recruitment and/or additional plant or systems and the ability to produce a business case and costings.
* To identify opportunities within the operation to maximise revenues and reduce costs.
* To protect and enhance the company’s brand and develop the operation through continuous improvement.
* Ensure the effective management of a fleet of 50 vehicles, due to increase to 60 then due to pending new contract wins going up to 100+.
Attributes:
* A highly experienced Transport General Manager within chilled haulage operations
* National CPC qualified
* BRC audit experience
* IOSH qualified (a plus, not a must)
* Experienced in managing 5+ direct reports & over 50 vehicles
This key role may suit someone working as a Transport Operations Manager, Head of Transport, Regional Transport Manager, Operations Director, Logistic General Manager or similar role titles with similar duties.
