Shift Patterns
2 posts of 19 hours per week to include 3 shifts per week Monday to Friday (07:00‑12:00 or 12:00‑17:00) or 2 shifts Monday to Friday when on weekend rotation, every other weekend and rotational bank holidays (07:00‑11:00). Fixed shifts are not offered.
Job Responsibilities
* Collection of blood samples from patients by venepuncture or capillary sampling.
* Accurate labelling of blood samples.
* Contribution to the prompt transport and delivery of blood specimens to the Laboratory.
* Participation in the provision of an efficient and continuous phlebotomy service.
* Work within standard safety procedures as laid down by the Laboratory Safety Officer.
* Work in accordance with the Pathology Standard Operating Procedures and Infection Control Policies.
* Maintain a professional manner, together with a courteous approach to patients, relatives and staff.
* Be confidential at all times regarding staff and patients.
* Participate in staff appraisal according to Trust policies.
Employment Details
* Salary: £24,465 a year per annum, pro rata.
* Contract: Permanent.
* Working pattern: Part‑time.

Education / Training / Qualifications
Essential
* Numeracy and Literacy Level 2 or equivalent.
* Evidence of full‑time education achievements.
* IT skills: basic word processing, email, keyboard, data collection.
* Ability and willingness to undertake appropriate training.
Desirable
* Qualification in venepuncture.
Work Experience
Essential
* Ability to work as part of a team.
* Experience of time‑management skills and prioritising work.
Desirable
* Experience of working in a health or social care setting.
* Previous experience in venepuncture.
* Ability to take blood samples within agreed procedures.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Essential
* Good interpersonal skills.
* Good communication skills, written and verbal.
* Able to adapt quickly to changing situations.
* Committed to providing high quality patient care.
* Ability to work independently under the supervision of the Lead Phlebotomist.
Desirable
* Ability to use hospital computer system.
* Knowledge of infection control policies.
