Band 5 Practice Nurse Primary Healthcare
Defence Primary Healthcare (DPHC) Central and Wessex region are looking for a dynamic, organised and efficient Band 5 Practice Nurse to work within our Primary Health Care team at Benson Combined Medical Centre. The Benson Medical Centre is combined with Abingdon Medical Centre; flexibility to work from either site is required at any time depending on business need.
Position: 30.5 hours per week (part‑time)
Salary: Pro‑rata for part‑time hours

Job responsibilities
* Provide specialist high‑quality person‑centred primary care, always considering patient safety, privacy and dignity, using evidence‑based clinical knowledge and core healthcare guidelines.
* Deliver appropriate treatment, screening and advice to patients within professional competence and in accordance with DPHC clinical guidelines and protocols.
* Provide safe, evidence‑based, efficient and individualised patient care.
* Undertake preventive health programmes such as travel and vaccination clinics, new patient screening and audiometry.
* Carry out technical nursing treatments and procedures for patients with complex or specialist healthcare needs (e.g., wound care, sutures removal, ECG, cytology, audiometry, ear care).
* Offer specialist advice and support to patients, their families and other healthcare professionals following assessment, diagnosis and treatment.
Qualifications and experience
* Registered Nurse on the Nursing and Midwifery Council register (RN1/RN(A)).
* Current NMC registration.
* Professional or clinical knowledge acquired through training to degree/diploma level.
* Basic Life Support (BLS) and, where necessary, Anaphylaxis, Automated External Defibrillation (AED), Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Safeguarding Level 3 (children and adults) or willingness to undertake training.
* Professional membership credentials as required by the role.
* Proficiency in relevant information technology systems; willingness to undertake specific training to fulfil role competency (e.g., audiometry, ear care, minor illness/injury, physical assessment, history taking, travel health and DPHC/MOD training).

* Visa sponsorship: This role does not meet the criteria for a skilled worker visa; applicants requiring sponsorship will not be considered.
* Mandatory evidence of Hepatitis B immunity (serology) must be provided; failure may result in withdrawal of the offer.
* Standard probation period of 6 months for new Civil Service entrants.
* No relocation expenses offered.
