The Role
Hospitality & Trading Services play an important part of the customer experience for our students, staff and visitors whilst on campus. Delivering a unique quality offer through our restaurants, cafes, bars and shops, we aim to provide the highest levels of customer care. The Chef post will involve working alongside the Executive Head Chef and the broader kitchen team in the day to day food production for the University. This includes the production of hot food, freshly made salads, function and event menus. The Chef will be expected to maintain high standards of catering and service provision within the department, from regular trading to large scale private functions. Qualifications in food safety laws, health and safety regulations and licencing laws as appropriate are required. This is a great opportunity to be part of a creative work environment.

Location: Penglais Campus
Hours: Shift patterns may vary to cover the business need, therefore candidates must be flexible and will be expected to work evenings and weekends.
The position requires the post holder to be fully flexible in meeting the needs of the department, to be seen to be a pro-active and dedicated member of the kitchen team, developing a good work ethic, encouraging continued staff and product development in all areas
Main Duties & Responsibilities
* To be responsible for the production of food for the University's busy hospitality outlets.
* To ensure that all food is produced and presented to the standards as laid out and agreed with the Executive Head Chef.
* To ensure that all production, service and storage areas are clean and comply with all health and safety and food safety legislation.
* To assist in achieving the required revenue and gross profit margins for all food produced as set out in the departmental budget.
* To assist in the maintaining of stock sheets with the correct pricing and help with periodic stock taking as directed by the Executive Head Chef.
* To ensure that all equipment is maintained in a clean and hygienic manner and that all equipment is correctly used by only trained staff.
* To ensure that all equipment faults are reported in a timely manner and through the correct channels.
* To ensure that all kitchen staff are aware of any temporary hazards and their working practices amended accordingly.
* To inform your line manager of any training needs that you may have in order to complete any of your set tasks.
* To check the weight, quality and temperature of all goods in, and ensure correct and timely storage, checking invoices against delivery notes and purchase orders.
* To be an active member of the hospitality department, ensuring a high quality of customer care.
* To be a proactive member of the kitchen team in developing a good work ethic within the department that encourages continued staff and product development in all areas.
* Undertake other duties as assigned by your line manager, commensurate with the role's grade.
* To be a flexible member of the team, supporting colleagues at peak times of workload and pressure including attendance at university events e.g. open days, graduation which may include weekend work.

Who you are – Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge and Skills required
Essential
* Basic Food Hygiene certificate.
* Catering qualification or equivalent experience.
* Manual Handling qualification.
* Previous catering experience in a kitchen environment.
* Experience of working independently with high volume food production.
* Showing an understanding and knowledge of high quality, freshly prepared food.
* Ability to produce food to a set standard following standard recipes.
* Ability to work unsupervised to follow the tasks and the standards as instructed.
* Ability to work as part of a team.
* Oral (spoken) and Written Welsh Level A0. An ability to understand the bilingual nature of the University and an awareness of the procedures in place to support working bilingually.
Desirable
* Intermediate food hygiene certificate.
* Chef de Partie experience or higher.
* Experience of working in a large kitchen team and supervising other staff.
Oral (spoken) and Written Welsh Level B1 or evidence to demonstrate an on-going commitment to learn Welsh to this level.
