SheQ Manager – North East
About the role
To support the Northern Cluster management team effectively, ensuring compliance with legislation, company policies, procedures, and industry standards across the Northern terminals, its employees, and contractors.
Key Responsibilities
1. Monitor activities to ensure health and safety standards meet company policies, industry standards, and legal requirements.
2. Implement and maintain site safety rules and regulations.
3. Manage the Northern terminals budget related to PPE, fire protection, safety equipment, first aid, and training.
4. Ensure the effectiveness of permit to work systems and procedures.
5. Induct contractors, drivers, and employees according to company procedures and competence management matrices.
6. Control contractor activities and maintain high standards of site safety.
7. Inspect workstations, perform atmospheric monitoring, and ensure compliance with COSHH regulations.
8. Manage PPE/RPE issuance and condition.
9. Review and communicate safety procedures and emergency plans.
10. Coordinate with external agencies and organize emergency exercises.
11. Prepare hazard data sheets and hazard assessments, ensuring proper communication.
12. Train personnel on safety requirements and maintain training records.
13. Update safety legislation and hazard training requirements regularly.
14. Ensure legal and regulatory safety compliance and assess competency requirements.
15. Maintain effective communication with stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, personnel, and customers.
16. Maintain safety-related plant and equipment.
17. Develop, implement, review, and evaluate safety management systems and procedures.
18. Serve as Main/Incident Controller during major incidents.
19. Investigate and report accidents, near misses, and hazards.
20. Collect and report safety and quality KPIs monthly.
21. Manage the Quality Assurance System and conduct audits.
22. Chair safety committee meetings and liaise with safety representatives.
About You
The ideal candidate will have secondary education in Maths, English, and Science, with at least a BTEC or HNC qualification in a relevant discipline, and hold a NEBOSH General Certificate. A Level 3 NVQ in Occupational Health and Safety, minimum 3 years’ experience in safety/quality roles, and knowledge of QMS and audits are required. Understanding of ISO9001:2015, Major Accident Hazard controls, risk assessments, HAZOPs, and Human Factors is essential. Self-motivated, proactive, with strong communication skills and management capabilities. Additional qualifications like NEBOSH Diploma, ISO9001 Lead Auditor, and OPITO standards are desirable but not essential.
