Overview
We are seeking a Manager to lead the Economic Crime Unit (ECU), part of the National Environmental Crime Unit (NECU). The successful candidate will lead a specialist team dedicated to removing the financial benefit from criminals and will be the strategic lead for managing financial investigations under POCA. The role involves high standards of leadership, collaboration with internal teams and external partners, and continual improvement of how we work.
Responsibilities
* Provide strong leadership to two Team Leaders (Asset Denial Team and Money Laundering Investigation Team) and a Senior Financial Intelligence Officer.
* Motivate, develop, and manage performance and delivery across the ECU team.
* Collaborate with internal teams (Investigatory Teams, Intelligence & Partnerships, Legal) and external partners (Police, National Crime Agency, HMRC).
* Influence senior stakeholders to ensure EA priorities are recognised across enforcement agencies.
* Support the wider organisation in improving processes, share lessons learned, input into technical documentation, and advise enforcement officers nationwide.
* Contribute to the ongoing understanding and application of POCA legislation.
Team and Unit
The Economic Crime Unit comprises two teams—the Asset Denial Team and the Money Laundering Investigations Team—consisting of Financial Investigators, Financial Intelligence Officers, and Crime Analysts. The unit is nationally dispersed and handles serious, complex criminality involving organised networks.
Experience/Skills Required
* Exceptional leadership skills, preferably with experience leading a dispersed team.
* Good understanding of financial investigations and the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA).
* Experience in:
o Working in the law enforcement sector and understanding the National Intelligence Model
o Effective communication, including giving feedback, managing performance, and building relationships with external stakeholders
o Working under pressure and prioritising a varied workload
o Identifying areas for improvement and leading changes to working practices
o Developing and enhancing the capability of a team and individuals
Other Information
* This is a hybrid role; you will work from home and your nearest office with travel across the country for meetings and duties. Incident response is a central part of the role and may involve an additional payment. Training and workplace adjustments are available.
