Applicants are invited to apply for a Registrar post in the Vascular Surgery service for 12 months on a fixed term contract. The post will be based at St Mary's Hospital but will include cross‑site working.
The successful candidate will be working within an internationally‑renowned service with a huge opportunity to further their skills and knowledge. Previous experience in Vascular Surgery within the NHS is essential for this post.
Main duties of the job
Applicants must hold full registration with the GMC, and will be expected to participate in a demanding on‑call rota. They must have the ability to organise and manage outpatient priorities, surgical waiting lists, operating lists and rotas as well as demonstrate strong communication and team‑working skills.

Job responsibilities
JOB PURPOSE
The post holder will be working at Registrar level, supporting and aiding the clinical ward work, the Outpatient workload and Elective and Emergency operating of the Department. The post holder will also be key in supporting both the Consultant body in managing their outpatient and theatre work, and the SHO body in their development.
KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
The post holder will be required to develop key working relationships with the following roles within the service and the wider Trust.

Person Specification
Clinical skills
* Capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge & judgement & prioritise clinical need
Language Skills
* All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues demonstrated by one of the following: that applicants have undertaken undergraduate medical training in English; or have achieved the following scores in the academic international English Language Testing System (IELTS) in a single sitting within 24 months at time of application - Overall 7, Speaking 7, Listening 7, Reading 7, Writing 7. If applicants believe they have adequate communication skills but do not fit into one of these examples they must provide supporting evidence.
Audit Experience
* Competent in the use of IT packages
* Experience of leading Audits
Relevant experience in specialty/Sub specialty
* Experience in vascular surgery at a previous NHS Trust at higher surgical training level
* Evidence that present achievement and performance is commensurate with totality of period of training
* Evidence of achievement of Foundation & Core competences from a UKFPO or equivalent
* Experience of HDU/ ITU management level.
Qualifications
* GMC registered
* MBBS or equivalent MRCS

* Capacity to communicate effectively and sensitively with others
* Able to discuss treatment options with patients in a way they can understand
* Capacity to operate effectively under pressure & remain objective in highly emotive/pressurised situations.
* Awareness of own limitations & when to ask for help.
