We are recruiting Permanent Highway Maintenance Operatives to join our NMC North Account in Keith.
Our NMC NE account has been working in partnership with Transport Scotland Northeast since August 2022, focusing on creating sustainable futures for communities, achieving net zero targets, and improving customer experience.
Covering 593 km of network, we provide routine highways, bridges, and structure maintenance, as well as designing and managing road safety schemes.
By maintaining roads and highways through all weather conditions and traffic incidents, we aim to create safe, well-functioning spaces that minimize disruption, keep people moving, and support thriving communities.
Highway Maintenance Operatives play a vital role in installing temporary traffic management and all aspects of highway maintenance, including road gritting, maintenance works, and litter picking.
Responsibilities include:
1. Undertaking highway maintenance activities, civils' works, and drainage works.
2. Driving/operating vehicles, including HGVs and large plant, ensuring vehicle checks and maintenance.
3. Participating in winter maintenance, including emergency call-outs and standby duties.
4. Keeping records of drivers' hours and necessary paperwork.
5. Ensuring safety and compliance with health and safety legislation.
6. Performing vehicle checks and documenting defects.
7. Attending project and work briefings.
8. Communicating and liaising with colleagues, subcontractors, emergency services, police, the public, and clients.
Ideal candidates will have:
* Previous experience in a similar role (preferred)
* Problem-solving skills
* Self-motivation and proactive attitude
* Good communication skills
Desirable: a valid HGV Class 2 license.
