Power Plant Operator

Geothermal Engineering Ltd (GEL) is at the forefront of geothermal power generation and renewable energy innovation in the UK. As we move into the commissioning phase of our United Downs geothermal power plant, we are looking for Power Plant Operators to join our expanding team.

About the Role

As we prepare for full-scale generation, your experience in power generation or a similar industrial setting will be vital to our success. If you're a reliable operator with a strong technical background and a passion for sustainable energy, we'd love to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

Plant Operations and Monitoring

* Managing the safe and efficient start-up and shutdown of critical equipment. Including generators, auxiliary pumps, and other essential plant systems.
* Operating the plant in compliance with safety and environmental regulations, ensuring all processes run smoothly and efficiently.
* Controlling and maintaining auxiliary systems such as pumps, fans, compressors, condensers, filters, and power systems, ensuring optimal performance.
* Making real-time adjustments to keep the plant operating within performance parameters, whilst prioritising safety, efficiently, and regulatory adherence.

Maintenance & Troubleshooting

* Perform first-line maintenance on plant equipment, such as troubleshooting mechanical and electrical faults.
* Ensure a safe system of work is maintained, including adherence to safe isolation procedures and work permits.
* Carry out regular cleaning, lubrications, and preventative maintenance to keep equipment running optimally.

Safety & Compliance

* Follow strict safety protocols and ensure compliance with safety regulations during all activities.
* Document all maintenance, operational procedures, and any incidents as per company guidelines.

Communication & Reporting

* Collaborate effectively with the GEL team, reporting operational status and any concerns to the Power Plant Manager.
* Maintaining accurate operational data by completing and updating logs, forms, and reports.
* Maintaining a calm and professional demeanour in all situations.

Requirements

Essential

The ideal candidate will have:

* Apprentice trained or qualified to ONC/HNC qualified in a relevant discipline (electrical, mechanical, process engineering, etc.).
* Proven experience in a power station operations team or similar industrial setting
* Solid knowledge of safety protocols and permit to work systems
* Proficient with Microsoft Office and able to maintain accurate records.
* Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
* Right to work in the UK (we are unable to offer sponsorship for this role).

Desirable

* A minimum of one years' experience within electricity generation facilities (or similar)
* A keen interest in renewable energy and in contributing to Cornwall's transition to a net-zero carbon future by 2030
* Willingness to work in challenging conditions, including heights and with mobile plant equipment, following appropriate training.

Location: The role will primarily be based at the GEL office on the United Downs Industrial Estate near Redruth, Cornwall.

Standard Hours: Full time hours. Shift Work rotation of 2 days, 2 nights and 4 rest days in a 7-week cycle.

Salary: £30k to £45k (dependent on experience) + 20% Shift Allowance, plus benefits
