3 month contract role with a Local Authority
Job Summary:
• The Youth Engagement Coordinator (PO4) will lead and manage a team delivering early‑intervention support to children, young people and families at risk of offending, exploitation, homelessness, family breakdown or other vulnerabilities.
• Working within Lambeth’s Youth Justice Service, the postholder will provide oversight of targeted interventions, ensure high‑quality practice, coordinate multi‑agency partnerships, and promote systemic and whole‑family approaches.
• The role involves supervision of staff, safeguarding responsibilities, risk management, and supporting innovative engagement with young people from diverse backgrounds. Evening, weekend and on‑call duties form part of this post.
Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
• Manage and supervise Prevention Officers and sessional Youth Engagement Workers, including workload allocation, performance management and professional development.
• Provide management oversight to ensure effective, high‑quality interventions for vulnerable children, young people and families.
• Act as lead professional for cases with complex and multiple needs, ensuring risk and safeguarding concerns are appropriately managed.
• Deliver and quality‑assure systemic, strength‑based and whole‑family practice methods.
• Build and maintain collaborative working relationships with social care, education, police, health, probation, youth custody services, courts and voluntary sector partners.
• Undertake the role of Appropriate Adult (PACE) when required.
• Conduct and review assessments, intervention plans and safety/wellbeing plans in partnership with young people and families.
• Oversee accurate record‑keeping, data quality, and reporting requirements including external grant monitoring.
• Contribute to investigations of complaints, Member enquiries and Ombudsman cases.
• Represent the Youth Justice Service in multi‑agency meetings and external forums.
• Support innovation and service development, including joint training to embed shared processes.
• Ensure compliance with safeguarding legislation, GDPR, equality, diversity and inclusion standards, and wider council policies.
• Provide flexible cover including evenings, weekends and participation in on‑call arrangements.
Skills/Experience:
• Extensive experience managing complex and high‑risk cases involving children, young people and families.
• Strong background in systemic practice, whole‑family work and strength‑based intervention models.
• Experience supporting families affected by domestic abuse, serious youth violence, or mental health concerns.
• Demonstrable ability to prioritise workload and use professional supervision effectively.
• Significant experience working as lead professional within multi‑agency settings.
• Capacity to provide expert advice to universal and community services.
• Strong understanding of safeguarding legislation, statutory guidance and multi‑agency frameworks.
• Knowledge of early help partners, community assets, and local frameworks.
• Ability to assess risk, analyse information and make informed professional decisions.
• Excellent communication, record‑keeping and report‑writing skills.
• Ability to lead, motivate and develop staff teams.

Additional Information:
• Bi-Weekly Payments.
• Employment type: Temporary, 12‑week assignment.
• Hours: 35 hours per week.
• Work pattern: 3 days office-based, 2 days home working.
• Required to work evenings, weekends and on-call.
• Location: 6 Brixton Hill, London SW2 1RW.
• Rates: Umbrella: £36.72/hour.
• Enhanced DBS required.
