Veterans Housing Scotland (VHS) is seeking a senior fundraising professional to lead the delivery of a ten-year strategy that aims to raise £20 million to repair, adapt, and future-proof homes for disabled veterans.
We have a proud history dating back to 1915 and now provide over 630 rented homes across Scotland to those who have served their country and now need accessible, affordable housing. With construction and energy costs rising, our rental income cannot meet the capital investment needed to maintain our homes to modern standards. The case for support is strong – but we now need the right person to lead this effort.
What You’ll Do:
•Secure £2 million annually from charitable trusts and foundations.
•Build strategic partnerships and multi-year funding relationships.
•Develop and manage a 10-year funding pipeline.
•Write exceptional grant funding bids that captures imagination with clear outcomes.
•Turn technical property data into fundable proposals.
What You’ll Bring:
•Proven experience securing six- and seven-figure grants.
•Knowledge of the Scottish funding landscape and established relationships with major UK-wide and Scottish-based trusts and foundations.
•Exceptional experience in trust fundraising expertise within housing, veterans, or disability sectors
•Excellent proposal writing and case-for-support development skills, including the ability to translate technical property data into accessible funding narratives
•Experience producing or contributing to organisational impact reports or funding dashboards
•Excellent written and verbal communication.
•Ability to work strategically and independently Experience managing or building a fundraising team or function
•Ability to operate at a strategic level, working directly with the CEO to influence organisational funding priorities
•Experience of developing long-term strategic relationships with funders, including reporting and stewardship

Job Title: Head of Fundraising
Reporting to: Chief Executive Officer
Contract: Fixed Terms - Two years. Location: Hybrid (Edinburgh base, with UK-wide funder engagement)
Hours: Full-time (35 hours per week)
Purpose of the Role
To lead, deliver, and grow a sustainable fundraising programme that secures £2 million annually from trusts and foundations to fund the capital refurbishment and improvement of 630+ properties across Scotland for disabled veterans.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
• Lead the delivery of VHS’s ten-year fundraising strategy
• Develop annual income plans and monitor progress against targets
• Translate property investment needs into compelling fundable projects
• Contribute to organisational strategy and income diversification plans
Trusts and Foundations Fundraising
• Build and manage a rolling pipeline of 40–50 trust prospects
• Research, write, and submit compelling funding proposals and impact reports
• Secure at least 10 multi-year funding partnerships by 2027
• Increase unrestricted income from trusts to cover core costs
Relationship Management
• Cultivate strategic relationships with major trusts and foundation funders
• Represent VHS at relevant funder events, briefings, and conferences
• Build VHS’s visibility and credibility in the housing, veteran, and disability sectors
• Ensure professional, timely funder stewardship and reporting
Team Development
• Establish and lead a small, high-performing fundraising team (internal and/or freelance)
• Build internal fundraising systems including prospect tracking, bid templates, and reporting mechanisms
• Identify and manage external consultants as needed
Organisational Coordination
• Work with Property and Finance leads to align proposals with survey data and capital forecasts
• Collaborate with the Communications team to integrate funding messages
• Support CEO and DCEO in senior-level cultivation of high-value funders
