Overview
A growing surveying and digital‑data organisation is looking for an experienced Utility Surveyor to support nationwide projects across infrastructure, utilities, and construction. The role focuses on locating underground services, gathering accurate site data, and producing clear outputs that feed into wider engineering and design work. This is a hands‑on field position requiring strong technical capability, safe working practices, and the ability to deliver reliable results within agreed timeframes.
Purpose of the Role
The Utility Surveyor will carry out utility detection and mapping using a range of recognised techniques. They will be responsible for collecting, interpreting, and presenting survey information to the required technical standards, ensuring all work is completed safely, accurately, and in line with client expectations.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will undertake some or all of the following duties:
Review project requirements before attending site to ensure all necessary information is captured.
Carry out on‑site utility detection using appropriate tools and methods, producing outputs that meet technical and client specifications.
Apply relevant industry standards and guidance throughout the survey process.
Work alongside colleagues to compile reports, drawings, and data packages to the required quality and format.
Maintain clear communication with clients, contractors, and internal teams throughout each project.
Create and update spreadsheets, logs, and databases to support reporting and data management.
Follow all risk assessments, method statements, and safety procedures.
Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, including Health & Safety, CDM, and NRSWA requirements.
Attend client meetings when required and contribute to project discussions.
Support continuous improvement by feeding into lessons‑learned reviews and helping refine processes.
Assist in the development or testing of new tools, equipment, or software used in survey delivery.
Look after survey equipment and vehicles to ensure they remain operational and ready for use.
Carry out additional duties across the wider business when needed.Core Competencies & Requirements
At least five years’ experience in utility surveying or a closely related discipline.
ProQual Level 5 (minimum Level 3) in Utility Mapping Surveying.
Minimum of five Level 2 qualifications (e.g., GCSEs including Maths and English).
Confident using EML, GPR, GPS and other utility‑detection equipment.
Experience delivering surveys to PAS128 standards.
Strong IT capability, including Microsoft Office.
Able to manage workload, meet deadlines, and maintain high levels of accuracy.
Clear written and verbal communication skills.
Professional manner when dealing with clients and stakeholders.
Strong organisational skills.
Full UK driving licence.Desirable Skills
Degree‑level qualification in a relevant field.
Background in utility surveying within utilities or construction environments.
Experience using AutoCAD.
Familiarity with topographical survey tools such as laser scanners, total stations, GPS and levelling equipment.
CSCS card.
