About the role

To be the Council’s Legal Services Manager to provide efficient and effective Legal Services across the Authority. To also act as Deputy Monitoring Officer when required, and to provide a key link with Corporate Lead Officers.

To work with other Corporate Managers in ensuring that teams are managed consistently to meet strategic and corporate objectives and that these are effectively coordinated and implemented across all service areas.

Whilst Corporate Managers have specific responsibility to manage a team and/or function, they have a corporate responsibility to ensure that all service activities and actions are managed to support Council strategic objectives and standards.

To work creatively and support the strategic goal to achieve the highest possible standards of performance in Ceredigion County Council services and teams.

About the candidate

We are looking for a candidate who is educated to degree level and a qualified Solicitor/Barrister/Legal Executive with at least 5 years’ PQE.

We require someone with knowledge of UK and Welsh Government Law, with experience of working in Local Government and with an understanding of the role of elected members in a political context.

We also require someone who has knowledge of and has 5 years’ experience of managing a team, (supervisory experience will also be considered) performance management and with a track record of improving teams with an understanding of the principles of leadership and management.

We ensure that the Council operates in a responsible and transparent manner by providing corporate and operational legal advice, auditing, objective assurance and support across all service areas resulting in the legal welfare and obligations of the Council being upheld, and assurance provided on governance, risk and internal controls.
