Anopportunity has arisen for an experienced Clinical Support Worker on Ward L23,part of the Head & Neck CSU at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. We arelooking for forward-thinking and innovative individuals, with knowledge of, andexperience in surgical nursing care and a passion for Head & Neck nursing,who are ready to move the ward and the CSU into the future.
L23is a 22-bed inpatient ward caring for ENT, Maxillofacial and a small number ofspinal and stroke patients. As the only Head & Neck inpatient ward, we playa significant role in delivering the CSUs surgical caseload. Your role willinvolve supporting the Ward Manager in working with the CSUs other services todeliver a seamless inpatient service which achieves our wider goals. Knowledgeof the CSUs priorities, Head and Neck experience and a level head areessential attributes of this role.

Main duties of the job
Thejobholder will be actively involved in providing direct and indirectcompassionate care for patients in support of the multidisciplinary team. Thejobholder will undertake a range of delegated clinical patient care dutiesunder the support and supervision of a registered practitioner.
Thejobholder will assist in the overall implementation and evaluation of care aspart of the multi professional team. The jobholder is expected to plan,implement, deliver and maintain high standards of patient care. The jobholderwill be skilled in taking appropriate action(s) and acting on own initiative toachieve the planned outcome.
Thejobholder will contribute to the maintenance of an environment for effectivecare.
Thejobholder will be expected to lead a team of clinical support workers andapprentice clinical support workers.
Thejobholder will be expected to practice in accordance within Trust policies,guidelines, standards and statutory requirements and operate within definedcompetency boundaries.
Thejobholder will work within a ward, clinical department or community setting aspart of a multidisciplinary team.
Thejobholder must comply with the wearing of PPE as appropriate to the clinicalsituation - this may involve wearing face masks for a considerable length oftime

Job responsibilities
Establish and maintain effectivecommunication with patients, families and carers
Develop and maintain appropriaterelationships, communication and teamwork with members of themulti-disciplinary team within the ward and or department
Assist in the welcome and receptionof patients into the clinical area
Demonstrate a variety ofcommunication skills with patients who may have communication needs and difficulties e.g. confusion, dementia or otherlinguistic issues
Communicate effectively with allhealth, social care providers, voluntary sectors and emergency services
Maintain clear, concise and legibledocumentation adhering to standards in accordance with trust policies andguidance
Ensure compliance with Trustpolicies and procedures regarding confidentiality of data and data security
Communicate with colleagues andmembers of the multi-disciplinary team clearly and effectively in written,verbal and electronic format (this may include accessing and updating patientrecords on central databases or electronic systems).
Occasionally participates in andcontribute to local audits (e.g. hand hygiene audit)
Escalate concerns with regards topatients physical or psychological needs, or changes in their clinicalcondition to a registered practitioner within appropriate time frames
Effective use of communicationskills when responding to patients, relatives or carers concerns andcomplaints, contributing to the ward, unit or department team action plan toachieve local resolution.
Ensures, in liaison with registeredpractitioners that interpreters are utilised as appropriate to supportpatients understanding and communication needs.
Ability to answer phone,effectively managing the enquiry.

Qualifications
* NVQ 2 in Health and Social Care, Level 2 Diploma in Healthcare Support or equivalent health care related qualification
* The Care Certificate or in the absence of this the applicant must successfully attain the Care Certificate within the first 3 months of employment.
* Commitment to undergo training and education as required
* Able to fulfil Occupational Health requirements for the post (with reasonable adjustments if necessary), including clearance on blood borne viruses in compliance with Trust Policy
* Ability to travel in between Trust premises and patient homes for posts that involve community visits
* Basic skills Maths and English Level 1 (equivalent of GCSE 1-9 (A*-G))
