The Role

Tameside is one of the ten local authorities forming Greater Manchester, situated between the vibrant Manchester City Centre and the peaceful Peak District. Our nine towns each have unique identities and share a vision for a prosperous Tameside with improved opportunities, higher educational attainment, better-paid jobs, and scenic surroundings.

In the face of ongoing cost-of-living challenges, we aim to maintain high-quality vital services and provide strategic financial support to Council departments.

The Financial Management team is a centralized finance service within the Resources Directorate, adopting a Business Partnering approach to offer financial advice, guidance, and expertise across the Council. You will play a key role in supporting the transformation towards financially sustainable services that enable residents to live healthy and independent lives, while also promoting continuous improvement within Financial Management.

Responsibilities include supporting:

* Key financial tasks such as monthly budget monitoring, annual budget setting, corporate finance activities, and final accounts
* Service and Business directorates with medium and long-term financial planning
* Efficient and comprehensive business partnering and financial management services to the Council, partners, and external clients, ensuring optimal use of resources within existing budgets
* The review, development, and implementation of financial systems, policies, and procedures
* Financial and business support, advice, guidance, and training to budget managers in line with Council policies and procedures
* Evaluation of invest-to-save and service transformation proposals to achieve cost efficiencies and avoidances, including future service delivery models
* Development and integration of Directorate and Business performance data within financial reports

About You

If you have a proven track record of delivering solutions, can work collaboratively, and are committed to improving services for residents and businesses, we would like to hear from you. We seek conscientious, dedicated individuals who can operate effectively as part of a team, are proactive, highly motivated, and capable of meeting strict deadlines.

The Council encourages innovative working practices where feasible, supported by a hybrid model combining remote and office-based work.
