The National HSE Manager (projects & engineering services) will report directly to the National Director of Health, Safety & Environment. This role is based predominantly at home with required travel to office and project sites. The post holder reports to the relevant Head of Business Unit and leads the delivery of health, safety and environmental management for live project environments, ensuring compliance with legislation, continuous improvement of safety culture and effective stakeholder communication.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide professional support to project and engineering teams with a strong understanding of CDM2015, inspections, and collating comprehensive reports for the leadership team and board level.
* Develop and maintain an effective environmental management system, including impact registers and reporting.
* Drive improvements and best practice in safety, health and environmental issues across the Integral Group, including bespoke training and behavioural safety initiatives.
* Ensure a positive, pro‑active H&S culture; analyse statistics, develop action plans to reduce TRIR and DART, and align targets with company and JLL objectives.
* Conduct site safety audits for sites/engineers across business units, ensuring compliance with legislation and Integral standards; develop and deliver a remote audit/inspection methodology.
* Monitor completion of mandatory and core training within business units to maintain momentum; identify and prepare bespoke training as required.
* Identify and control key operational risks, including whole‑building risk areas from roof top to waste extraction.
* Communicate effectively with all levels, supporting a “One Team” HS&E approach.
* Collaborate with Integral Procurement to vet sub‑contracting partners, ensuring KPIs within contracts meet Integral safety and environmental standards.
* Work with the National Director of HS&E on sustainability and safety plans; lead client liaison when directed.
* Interpret new HSE legislation and guidance and develop new processes with the national HS&E team.
* Identify additional occupational health standards in partnership with other HSE team members.
* Administer reporting of accidents, occupational ill‑health and dangerous occurrences; ensure investigations are completed appropriately.
* Prepare management and board reports, including accident, incident and ill‑health management information for business and national meetings.
* Undertake investigations into incidents and accidents to capture lessons learned.
* Produce an annual audit and inspection regime focusing on building risk and subcontractors.
* Participate in planned and ad‑hoc HSE meetings, including client-facing sessions.
* Prep business and individual work locations for ISO14001, 9001 and 45001 audits; assist with the IMS audit programme and close out audit actions.
* Promote ownership of safety and environmental issues with supervisory and management teams.
* Execute safety and environmental projects as directed by the Head of HS&E and National Director in collaboration with the national HS&E team.
Qualifications & Experience
* Member of IOSH or equivalent (working to Chartered).
* NEBOSH – General or Construction certification or equivalent.
* IEMA qualifications in Environmental Management.
* Engineering or project background.Accident/Incident investigation training (root cause analysis).
* Strong knowledge of key H&S legislation, particularly CDM.
* Excellent communication skills and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.
* Clean driving licence.
* Experience in internal ISO 9001, 14001 & 45001 auditing.
Desired Skills & Certifications
* First Aid Certificate.
* PTS Qualified (current medical certification).
* Basic Scaffold Inspection.
* Asbestos Awareness.
* Knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.
* CSCS or Prince 2 – Project Manager (Construction).
* Experience in leading project safety and environmental strategies.
