Additive Manufacturing Engineer
Rapid Fusion Ltd, an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) specializing in Large Format Additive Manufacturing (LFAM) solutions for polymer components, is seeking a hands-on Additive Manufacturing Engineer to join our growing team.
This role is central to building out a new capability within the business. The successful candidate will take ownership of operating and refining our advanced 3D printing processes while overseeing project delivery, quality assurance, and client satisfaction. Initially, you will be the primary driver of this area, with a clear path to expand the team around you as the division grows.
In addition to client-facing projects, you will play a pivotal role in the R&D feedback loop. New product trials and testing will be routed through this department, making it a hub for proof-of-concept work, validation, and process refinement that directly influences our product development roadmap.
Responsibilities
* Operate and manage robotic large-format 3D printing systems to produce high-quality client parts and prototypes.
* Oversee the full project lifecycle: scheduling, QA checks, and timely delivery of printed components.
* Act as a key link between R&D and production by testing new products, capturing performance data, and feeding insights back into design and engineering teams.
* Troubleshoot and perform print repairs to minimize downtime and ensure consistent output.
* Collaborate with clients to adapt CAD models for LFAM and optimize designs for manufacturability.
* Develop and refine toolpath strategies and machine settings to maximize efficiency and quality.
* Document processes, improvements, and project progress with clear accountability.
* Drive continuous improvement in workflows, ensuring robust QA standards are maintained.
* Provide technical support for machine setup, operation, and maintenance as required.
* Stay current with advancements in LFAM and related print process technologies to ensure best practice adoption.
Requirements
* Degree in Additive Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
* Extensive practical experience with large-format/robotic 3D printing systems.
* Strong CAD and toolpath optimization skills (Fusion 360, Adaone, AiSync or similar).
* Proven ability to manage multiple projects, balance deadlines, and maintain accountability.
* Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
* Effective communicator, able to work with both clients and internal R&D teams.
* Desire to grow into a leadership position as the division expands.
