We are looking to appoint a dynamic and motivated Specialty Doctor in Haematology to complete our complement of a team of 4 SAS doctors. The post is based at Royal Oldham Hospital with clinics at Fairfield General Hospital. The SAS doctors assist the consultant staff and medical team in the management of adult haematology patients, both malignant and non-malignant, in the outpatient, day case and inpatient setting. Visits can be arranged for candidates in order to appreciate the quality of life our hospitals and the surrounding area can offer. The successful candidate will be expected to: • Undertake 10PA basic contract, with an additional 1 PA for on call; other arrangements could be discussed based on personal circumstances. • Become involved in teaching, training, and research. • Support service development • Report blood films independently (laboratory training could be provided) • Attend outpatient clinics and perform bone marrow biopsies. • Undertake chemotherapy prescription and administration of intrathecal chemotherapy after successful completion of trust-approved training. • Provide advice to doctors from other specialties and general practitioners in management of haematological problems. We can provide support for CESR process in eligible candidates Main duties of the job • To assist Consultant staff in the management of adult Haematology patients, both malignant and non-malignant, in the outpatient, day case and inpatient setting. • Attend and assist at Outpatient clinics. • In conjunction with other members of the team, to manage haematology inpatients. • To attend Consultant ward rounds as required. • To undertake bone marrow, intrathecal and other procedures as necessary and assist with reporting of blood films. • Provide medical support for chemotherapy and day unit services. • To be available for advice to junior doctors, attending ward/day unit as necessary. • To liaise with GPs and provide advice in consultation with Consultant Haematologist. • To assist with, attend and contribute to patient management at MDTs. • To assist with laboratory queries and report films, bone marrows within your level of competence and training. • On-call inpatient weekend cover provided by SAS doctors and ST3 trainees at Royal Oldham Hospital 1:6 basis. • To ensure all documentation is comprehensive, accurate and completed in a timely manner. • Promote a friendly and team-based environment in line with the Trust values. • Teaching of junior medical staff through mixture of case-based review and formal teaching activities • To undertake audit of clinical practice to ensure that current standards are applied. • All Specialty Doctors are required to maintain and develop their clinical skills. Individual training and development needs will be identified through an appraisal process.
