Advanced SQL Server DBA – NHS Organisation
Rate: £428 per day (Outside IR35)
Contract: 3 months
Location: Central London (2 days on-site per week)
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Advanced Database Administrator (DBA) to join an NHS organisation on a short-term contract. You will be responsible for building and managing SQL Server databases across multiple lifecycle environments, from development to mission-critical production systems, within an Always On SQL Farm.
Key Responsibilities
1. Configure and maintain SQL Server databases, ensuring high performance, availability, and security.
2. Apply data modelling techniques to support integration and performance requirements.
3. Troubleshoot and resolve issues in real time, providing end-to-end problem resolution.
4. Automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes.
5. Assist developers with complex query tuning and schema refinement.
6. Provide technical mentorship and cross-training to team members.
7. Recommend solutions for database structure, security, backup, and recovery.
8. Install and configure new systems, propose specifications, and coordinate installation requirements.
9. Maintain database performance and complete maintenance requirements.
10. Create dashboards using Power BI.
11. Work with multi-terabyte, high-throughput, highly available databases.
12. Manage storage fabric (Fibre and iSCSI) and SQL failover for business continuity.
13. Support project teams during analysis and planning stages, including Change Management.
14. Write reports, instructions, and specifications.
15. Design and enforce networking standards, monitor performance, and troubleshoot network issues.
Essential Skills
16. Advanced SQL Server DBA experience in high-availability environments.
17. Expertise in Always On Availability Groups.
18. Strong knowledge of Power BI for dashboard creation.
19. Experience with storage fabric technologies (Fibre/iSCSI).
20. Business continuity and failover planning.
21. Excellent problem-solving and performance tuning skills.
22. Ability to mentor and share technical expertise.
