Great Opportunity to join Cove Ward as our new MAV Link!

Cove Ward is a 15 bed Inpatient mental health ward for Older Adults. Located within Longreach House on the Camborne Redruth Community Hospital site.

If you are interested in developing your skills and teaching others. If you are interested in restraint reduction and how you can support teams to think differently about approaching the management of challenging behaviours, then this role might be for you!

As part of your role you’ll be trained to deliver training in our new management of violence and aggression package (delivered by the General Services Association (GSA)), and will protected to deliver this training for the Trust on a regular basis. The rest of your time will be spent on your ward, supporting staff to embed new ways of working and restraint reduction techniques.


Main duties of the job

The post holder will be under the direction and guidance of the MAV Lead, and will be required to deliver educational programmes regarding the safe and effective management of patients. This will include MAPA.

You will act as a role model to colleagues, always seeking to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, using their initiative and take responsibility for themselves and the quality of their work and the service they provide to patients. You will be flexible in your approach and support the ward in times of change.

You will be expected to deliver brief MAV training sessions within the ward environment and to monitor staff skills to avoid skill fade.

You will be required to deliver search training to inpatient staff.

You will be involved in new and developing training packages and assist in the delivery of these to the wider staff group.

You will be responsible for the monitoring and maintenance of the safety pod and other training equipment.

As a MAV link trainer, your working commitments will fall in line with the Mental Health Units (Use of Force) Act 2018.

Education / Qualifications and Relevant Experience

* NVQ 4 in Health and Social Care or equivalent experience
* Experience working with patients who have complex mental health needs
* Previous knowledge and experience of working in a care environment
* Knowledge of recovery and rehabilitation principles


Skills and Aptitude

* Practical problem solving skills
* Basic IT skills
* Practical skills associated with monitoring patients physical health
* Practical skills associated using a socially inclusive whole life approach
