The Role: HR Business Partner
Reports to: Head of HR
Salary: £45,000 per annum
Location: Based at Derby Head Office, with regular travel to all stores across the UK.
Contract Type: Permanent
Hours: 37.5 hours per week (Monday-Friday)
Our HR Business Partners work closely with leadership to deliver high impact people plans to develop strong leaders, drive team engagement and build a culture of commitment and accountability.
Leading a team of People Partners, the HR Business Partner ensures operational excellence across all HR systems and processes that support the entire employee life cycle, from recruitment and onboarding, development and succession planning.
Key Responsibilities
* Partner with store leadership teams to understand operational priorities and translate them into effective people strategies.
* Coach and challenge leaders to build capability, drive performance, and embed a culture of commitment.
* Lead, coach, and develop a team of People Partners, fostering a high‑performing, collaborative culture.
* Ensure consistent delivery of people support across all stores.
* Build HR capability within the team, ensuring up‑to‑date knowledge of best practice and employment legislation.
* Oversee the consistent application of HR policies, processes, and systems across the employee life-cycle.
* Drive improvements in HR operational efficiency, ensuring stores receive timely, accurate, and effective support.
* Work closely with wider People Team to implement new initiatives and ensure alignment.
* Support leadership teams to identify high‑potential colleagues and ensure robust development plans are in place.
* Champion performance management, ensuring leaders deliver regular feedback, coaching, and performance improvement where required.
* Use workforce analytics to identify recruitment needs, turnover trends, skills gaps, and future capability requirements.
* Influence attraction strategies to ensure stores build strong, diverse talent pipelines.
* Support store leaders to build inclusive, engaged teams with strong levels of commitment and retention.
* Use engagement data to identify themes and support leadership teams to create actionable improvement plans.
* Promote well-being, inclusion, and positive employee experiences across all touch-points.
* Analyse HR metrics to identify opportunities and risks.
* Present actionable insights to leadership teams to drive people and business outcomes.
Key skills that will help you succeed in this role:
* Experience in a multi‑site, fast‑paced HR Business Partnering role (retail, hospitality, logistics or similar).
* Strong capability in coaching, influencing, and partnering with senior stakeholders.
* Experience leading and developing HR/People Partner teams.
* Deep understanding of HR processes, employment law, and best practice.
* Strong analytical capability with the ability to translate data into meaningful insights and action.
* Proven ability to drive performance, engagement, and cultural change.
