Building Services Engineer
Location: Portsmouth or Stevenage
Rate: £40 per hour (Umbrella)
Contract: 12 months initially
Hours: 35 per week (4.5‑day week)
Security: SC Clearance (BPSS+)
About the Role
We’re looking for an experienced Building Services & Fabric Clerk of Works to carry out inspections, quality checks, and compliance oversight across Mechanical, Electrical, and Fabric installations on a range of high‑profile projects.
You’ll act as the technical eyes and ears on site — ensuring every installation meets the highest standards of quality, safety, and design compliance.

Key Responsibilities
* Conduct regular inspections of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire systems, controls, structure, and building fabric
* Ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, Building Regulations, H&S legislation and industry best practice.
* Identify, document, and support the resolution of defects and non‑conformances.
* Maintain clear daily records, photos, logs, and produce weekly/monthly reports
* Verify materials and workmanship against required standards.
* Attend site and technical meetings, providing professional technical input.
* Ensure all handover documentation (O&M manuals, as‑builts, Safety Files, commissioning records) is accurate and complete.
What We’re Looking For
Essential
* Experience as a Clerk of Works, Site Inspector, or similar building services quality‑focused role.
* Strong knowledge across Mechanical, Electrical, and Building Services systems.
* Experience in construction site management and quality control.
* Ability to read/interpret engineering and architectural drawings.
* Excellent communication and report‑writing skills.
* Competent using Google OS, AutoCAD, and relevant software.
* Organised, proactive, diplomatic, and able to work independently.
* Full UK driving licence.
* HNC/HND, Degree, or City & Guilds in Building Services, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Construction, or similar field
Desirable
* Membership of ICWCI.
* NEBOSH or similar H&S qualifications
