Overview
The successful candidate will be expected to work as part of the multidisciplinary Blood Sciences laboratory after appropriate training and completion of the relevant in-house competencies. As a Medical Laboratory Assistant your main role is to assist Biomedical Scientists with their lab work. You will receipt and process a variety of biological samples. You will also be trained to work in phlebotomy, taking blood from patients. This is an important role, supporting the Pathology Department, and is suitable for individuals who like a variety of duties. Hours: Core Hours are 09:00 - 17:30; the successful applicant will be expected to take part in the Out of Hours Roster, including early shifts, late shifts, weekends and Bank Holidays.

* Receipt and processing of a variety of biological samples
* Assist Biomedical Scientists with laboratory work
* Phlebotomy training and taking blood from patients
* Support the Pathology Department

Qualifications and Skills
* Experience of computer input work and ability to demonstrate current skills
* Literate and numerate; GCSE Grade C or above in mathematics and English would be an advantage
* Previous laboratory or health care experience and familiarity with medical terminology
* Attention to detail
* Good level of manual dexterity
* Computer skills for recording patient information
* Teamwork and excellent communication skills
