Job Summary: An enthusiastic and motivated Speech and Language Therapy Assistant (SLTA) to join our speech and language therapy team in the Huntingdon area. The successful applicant will provide intervention to children with speech, language and communication needs under the direction of a speech and language therapist and provide administrative support to the therapists.
With a strong ethos of clinical support and supervision, our team provides evidence-based advice, training and interventions to children and young people. We are a friendly and supportive team committed to providing effective services as part of a multi-disciplinary, multi-agency service.

Main duties
The post holder will assist SLTs in clinical and administrative work and will implement intervention programmes. The client group is children who have difficulties in understanding and/or using speech and language. This work is managed rather than supervised. The role includes running groups as required.
Responsibilities
* Clinical (approximately 60%): Implement speech and language therapy packages with children, modify as necessary, assist in planning routine activities, monitor progress, observe and adapt interventions, and contribute to caseload administrative duties (updating case records).
* Administrative (approximately 40%): Carry out clerical tasks supporting clinical delivery, arrange appointments, data collection and entry, filing, photocopying and typing of reports and treatment plans, ensure data is entered onto the SLT database, organise treatment materials, and use IT resources.
* Communication: Communicate effectively with children and professionals, maintain confidentiality and data protection, contribute to internal and external communication strategies.
* People Management: Maintain own professional development and participate in appraisal; supervise less experienced staff.
* Training: Assist in training other professionals and parents; participate in in-service training; attend mandatory training.
* Clinical and Practice Governance: Maintain confidentiality, adhere to information governance, risk management, infection control, mandatory training, audits, and emergency preparedness.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
* 5 GCSEs A-C
* Elklan level 3 or NVQ level 3 or equivalent
* Standard keyboard skills, familiar with Word and Excel
Desirable
* Relevant short courses or diploma-level experience
* Experience of working with young children and with additional needs
* Experience working as part of a team; experience with public interaction; familiarity with SystmOne; understanding of personal and social implications of speech, language and communication disorders
Skills
* Good communication and organisational skills
* Flexible and able to use own initiative
* Awareness and understanding of safeguarding issues
* Good presentation skills; knowledge of Makaton (desirable)
