Job Description:
A fantastic opportunity is available to join a progressive, well-established Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) in the Scotland region. We are recruiting Consultant Psychiatrists to join a growing and supportive team that delivers innovative, evidence-based mental health care to children, adolescents, and their families.
There is active support for teaching, quality improvement, and academic involvement, including medical student and psychiatry trainee education in collaboration with leading Scottish medical schools.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
* Provide high-quality, community-based psychiatric assessment, care, and treatment for children and adolescents up to their 18th birthday.
* Offer consultant leadership within a multidisciplinary team, ensuring safe and effective service delivery.
* Participate in mental health act responsibilities, liaise with inpatient services, and interdisciplinary safeguarding meetings.
* Support service delivery within one or more locality CAMHS teams and work closely with specialist teams, including: Neurodevelopmental Services Eating Disorder Service Infant Mental Health Services for care-experienced young people and those affected by parental mental illness
* Contribute to the duty consultant rota to provide emergency psychiatry support across the CAMHS and Neurodevelopmental Service.
* Supervise junior doctors and participate in medical education, including undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
* Engage in clinical governance, quality improvement, and continuing professional development.
* Foster collaborative work with education, social care, and other community partners by the GIRFEC (Getting It Right for Every Child) framework.
Person Specification
Qualifications (Essential):
* MBChB or equivalent.
* Complete GMC registration with a license to practice.
* On the GMC Specialist Register in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry or General Psychiatry (with CAMHS experience), or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview.
* CESR candidates must have been awarded CESR by the date of the interview.
* Higher degree (MD, MSc, PhD, or Diploma).
* ALS or equivalent additional certifications.
Training & Experience:
* Recent clinical experience and competence in child and adolescent mental health.
* Ability to supervise junior doctors and multidisciplinary colleagues.
* Comfortable with managing both planned and unscheduled admissions.
* Experience in NHS-based service design or leadership.
* Subspecialty interests and administrative experience.
* Familiarity with UK training systems and Human Factors training.
