Overview
Calderdale Council is part of the Regeneration and Strategy Directorate. It holds regulatory franchise rights on behalf of the Council for the operation of market type events throughout the district and presently operates 6 retail venues in Halifax, Hebden Bridge, Elland, Todmorden and Brighouse over a 7 day week period. The Markets Team aims to operate markets that are the “heart of the place”, celebrating local services and local produce in a safe and friendly environment.
The post holder will join the Market Service to assist Market Attendants in the daily operation of the Councils Markets, including general cleansing duties, securing of premises and regulation of entry and trading, site supervision in accordance with Health and Safety requirements, minor maintenance and the erection and dismantling of market stalls.
Excellent customer service standards are required to deliver a first-class service. Health and Safety is a service priority and you will be expected to proactively encourage a positive health and safety working environment, ensuring that staff and stakeholders work safely at all times.
Responsibilities
* General cleansing duties
* Securing of premises and regulation of entry and trading
* Site supervision in accordance with Health and Safety requirements
* Minor maintenance and the erection and dismantling of market stalls
* Deliver excellent customer service
Requirements / Qualifications
* Ability and willingness to travel around the district to meet the needs of the service
* Understanding of the importance of establishing effective working relationships with customers and colleagues
* Ability to learn – undertake training to facilitate safe operations and methods of work and any other training that may be appropriate
* Effective people skills – ability to support and work with others to achieve goals
* Experience of cleaning and sanitising in a commercial or industrial setting
This role requires flexibility: the successful candidate will be expected to work weekends and from time to time on Bank Holiday Mondays, with potential to cover other Market Operative positions at other markets.
