Watch this short clip to discover how Arup are shaping a better world and how you could be a part of it!
What you'll do
As a senior engineer you are likely to have the ability to work across the project life cycle from developing concept designs to outline and detailed designs, and to work in or direct process engineering teams to ensure production of deliverables to established timelines and within budget.
You will co‑ordinate the work of others and liaise with engineers of other disciplines, imparting your knowledge and experiences. You will be working in highly regulated sectors, within a gated design and project delivery process. You will be involved in the development of mass and energy balances, process data sheets, control philosophies, and commissioning plans. You will also be involved in report writing and the development of fee proposals and feasibility studies of plant operating and capital costs. We would expect you to have a practical comprehension of how your designs will be implemented, and of digital approaches to solve our problems, including the relevant current analysis and design software.
We operate an enviable graduate training scheme, which is accredited by the IChemE, and as a senior engineer you will be expected to join the mentoring programme and help to shape our future pipeline of process engineers. We are looking for candidates with experience of a variety of technologies needed for the treatment of potable water, wastewater and biosolids processing.
Successful candidates are likely to have design experience of the following: fixed and suspended growth systems, anaerobic treatment of biosolids and high‑strength effluent, biogas handling and upgrading, membrane separation, solids filtration, disinfection, oxygenation, thermal hydrolysis, nutrient removal processes, chemical storage and dosing systems, and some experience of HazOp, DSEAR, COMAH, SIL determination, flammable gas handling and compression.
What we’re looking for
* Degree qualified in chemical engineering or similar
* Experience of working in or leading process engineering teams to ensure production of deliverables to agreed timelines, within budget
* Use of Biowin/GPS‑X modelling software
* Experience acting as the process designer in the HAZOP teams
* Chairing HazOp studies and resolution of technical matters, ideally experience of working in highly regulated sectors
* Development of fee proposals, creation of PID’s, plant layouts, GA and creation of energy and mass balances
* Development of feasibility studies and plant operating and capital costs
Attributes
* Demonstrable experience of working collaboratively with colleagues and with external collaborators
* Line manager responsibilities providing support to engineers and early careers
* Experience of digital approaches to solve our problems including the relevant current analysis and design software
