Locum Consultant – Oculoplastic

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Locum Consultant in Oculoplastics ahead of approval for a substantive post. The post-holder will play a key role in delivering and developing a high-quality, patient-centred oculoplastics service within the wider ophthalmology team.
This is an opportune time to join South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust (SWFT), as the expanding oculoplastics service continues to attract patients from a wider catchment and offers the opportunity to manage increasingly complex cases.
The successful applicant must be on the Specialist Register and provide evidence of experience in both oculoplastics and cataract surgery. They will be a committed and enthusiastic clinician with appropriate specialist training, demonstrating a strong commitment to clinical excellence, service development and improvement, and teaching and training, in line with the person specification.
The role includes commitments across Warwick Hospital and Stratford Hospital, with responsibilities for oculoplastics, cataract and general clinics, alongside theatre activity in both areas.
The service is supported by an experienced multidisciplinary team, including nurse specialists, healthcare support workers and medical secretarial staff.
This post is open to full-time and less than full-time applicants, with job plans tailored and adjusted on a pro‑rata basis.
Main duties of the job
* Join the Ophthalmology team to deliver a first class service at SWFT and contribute to the development of the services.
* Support the department in meeting the challenging key performance indicators.
* Deliver agreed standards of care and work to deliver a consultant and specialist delivered service.
* Support delivery of activity targets in partnership with Integrated Care Boards and support service developments, where possible.
* Allow flexibility through effective prospective cover.
* Provide professional supervision, direction and training for junior medical staff/ the wider supporting team.
* Take an active role in audit, research, teaching and governance.
* Participate in plans to lead to cost efficiencies across the Department.
* Contribute to risk management procedures.
* Ensure continuing professional development targets are achieved.
* Take part in the revalidation and annual appraisal processes.
* To provide cover for consultant colleagues as appropriate and in accordance with divisional arrangements and Trust policy.
* The post has no on‑call commitment.
Person specification
Academic achievements
* FRCOphth or equivalent. Post CCT Fellowship in oculoplastics.
* Post graduate degree/diploma – e.g. MSc./other postgraduate certificate MRCP or equivalent.
