At Peregrine, we’re proud to be recruiting on behalf of our clients. We are recruiting an exciting opportunity for highly motivated and experienced Senior Product and Device Manager with a strong background in overseeing the strategic management of Smart Metering devices.

The Role:
You will lead our Device and Product team in leading the maintenance and effectiveness of device integration across the organisations ecosystem, influencing policy, process and technical standards across a range of stakeholders.
In this role, you will hold overall accountability to represent the organisation in high-level forums, lead cross-functional initiatives, and guide the roadmap for device strategy and innovation.
You will be accountable for securing and improving the company’s role in assurance of connected HAN Devices on the Smart Network. You will own the definitive industry determination of operational performance of connected HAN devices.
The role requires excellent technical knowledge of SMETS1 and SMETS2 smart metering devices, excellent stakeholder engagement skills, and the ability to communicate complex information in an accessible manner. You will also support the introduction of emerging technologies such as Alt-HAN and load control devices into test and production environments.
Responsibilities:
Lead the Device and Product team, cultivating a high-performance culture underpinned by company values. Guide team development, performance management, resource planning and succession readiness.
Define and execute the strategic roadmap for Smart Metering devices within the testing and production environments.
Maintain oversight of product lifecycle, device vendor relationships, and key enablers such as firmware upgrades, interoperability standards and device configurations
Maintain and Execute plans for ensuring connected HAN devices are upgraded to latest firmware releases in a timely and controlled manner.
Own the Devices Team operational budget, ensuring robust financial governance, forecasting, and alignment with programme delivery.
Manage workforce planning to meet current and future delivery needs.
Ensure clear, consistent communication on technical requirements, standards, and strategic direction.
Serve as the senior technical lead for Smart Metering devices, managing the Technical Account Management Framework with device manufacturers.
Ensure effective provision and maintenance of SMETS devices, testing tools (e.g., GBCS, emulators), and test data within all environments. Support the delivery of programmes by ensuring readiness and resilience of the device ecosystem.
Drive continuous improvement across device-related processes, support models and services. Own a portfolio of device-related services such as Parse & Correlate, ICHIS, CPL, EPCL and others, ensuring service excellence and evolution.
Proactively embed industry best practices within the team and drive improvements across stakeholders by promoting better ways of working.
Act as Deputy for the Head of New Product and Change when required.
Chair and manage the Test Interoperability Events engaging with external stakeholders, including SEC Committees and DESNZ.
Plan, coordinate, and direct the activities and resources necessary for the successful delivery of device services, including responsibility for line management.
Prepare and deliver presentations and supporting materials that clearly communicate the processes, progress, and strategic direction of Device and Product services to both internal and external stakeholders.
Oversee the training, development, and well-being of the team, ensuring a supportive and high-performing working environment.
Manage service provider contracts, including the raising of purchase orders and the processing of invoices.
Requirements:
Sector experience with testing and managing a service
In depth understanding of SMETS meter development, testing and triage processes
Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences at senior management layer.
Strong stakeholder management skills, with experience negotiating contracts and managing service provider relationships.
Familiarity with managing test issues and defects
Experience with Smart Meter System Operator Head-End Systems (HES) and associated architectures.
