Senior Construction Engineer - EC&I at Balfour Beatty plc

BP (British Petroleum) has selected us to construct a first-of-a-kind fully integrated gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage, a key driver behind Teesside becoming the UK’s first decarbonised industrial cluster.
We are recruiting for a Senior Construction Engineer to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside project based at our new site in Redcar-in-Cleveland on Teesside.

Responsibilities
* Assists Project Manager with scope definition, planning and daily execution of the construction project. Responsible for maintaining certain aspects of the project schedule and managing the process of submittal approvals, coordinating the timely delivery of materials, maintaining schedules and budgets.
* Responsible for all technical aspects of the project throughout the Construction phase, including scope definition, design reviews, Technical Queries (TQs), supervision of subcontract works on site, qualification of cable calculations, final As-Built checks, assisting the Project Manager and ensuring the project is run safely and to programme.
* Report to Project Manager and liaise with other key team members such as QS/Design/Planning.
* Scope definition of work packages and identification of execution strategies; ensure packages are delivered to programme, budget, safety and quality expectations/standards.
* Maintain accurate records including RFIs, FCDs, WPPs, MCRs, ITPs, Record Drawings and other project communications/deliverables.
* Plan and organise plant, access, labour and materials with appropriate interfaces for the associated works, including any procurement activity relevant to a package.
* Provide technical input for ITT and assist with technical queries throughout the tender process.
* Where a package is subcontracted, the engineer remains accountable for the package deliverables and documents.
* Carry out periodic Progress Meetings with subcontractors to ensure package specifics are managed effectively.
* Identify risks to the Project Management team and raise EWNs as appropriate.
* Draft site instructions for review and issue by the Project Management team including detailed descriptions of works required, location, programme impact, cost impact and reference to client led changes.
* Provide relevant cost information to the QS and provide time estimates to support the programme; undertake or support MTO of relevant package of works.
* Liaise with the Project Manager or Contract Manager to ensure they are fully aware of project progress and notified of all financial, specification and time risks, ensuring that all additional work is identified.
* Carry out design reviews of power distribution and protection systems for LV & MV; experience with selection and specification of electrical distribution and control equipment.
* Direct and coordinate all project electrical engineering issues related to equipment specification, procurement, and installation design (procurement strategy, preparation of specifications, selection of suppliers, supervision of contracts, review of vendor data, FAT, liaison with other disciplines, support to site during installation and commissioning).
Essential
* Previous Construction Engineering experience within the relevant industry.
* Effective communication skills to manage customer relationships, plus planning and organisation to deliver operational excellence.
* Leadership skills with experience leading teams and the ability to influence and communicate to deliver targets.
* Financial awareness to deliver targets and a commitment to safety and sustainability.
* Willingness to visit suppliers and monitor their activities if required.
Desirable
* Experience with Lean Construction principles and Lean practitioner training.
* Attend and contribute toward industry events.
* Member of a professional body (e.g., IET).
* Proficient with Office 365.
* Holds a current driving licence.
Other Qualifications
* Formal qualification (HNC/HND) in Engineering/Construction or equivalent.
* APM PFQ/PMQ/PPQ.
* CSCS and SMSTS or equivalent.
* CCNSG / HS&E MAPS.
