Overview
Band 6 Special School Nurse role at Evasion-design.com. Location: City Wide, Birmingham. Contract: Fixed term (12 months). Working pattern: Part-time, term-time hours. Salary: £38,682 to £46,580 per year (pro rata).
Responsibilities
* Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide, protect and improve the health and wellbeing of children with a range of health needs in a special school environment.
* Carry out assessments; provide planned and responsive clinical care; ensure local safeguarding policies are adhered to.
* Act as a role model for Band 5 Special School Nurses and Enteral Feeding Assistants; support education staff and offer advice and support to parents and pupils.
* Manage a caseload; provide direct nursing care and training to health and educational staff on the management of nursing issues; work in partnership with the Doctor and Therapy Team in assessing, reviewing and meeting needs of children and young people.
* The core offer from the Special School Nursing Service: assessment and review; hands-on clinical care; key worker and signposting including transition; training and supervision; and a general role in optimizing long-term health and lifestyles.
* Have management responsibility of junior team members (e.g., Band 3 and Band 5) with supervision of student nurse placements; support Team Leader with management of Band 5 nurses, Health Care Assistants, Admin and Clerical staff in the locality.
Qualifications
* Essential: Registered Children\'s Nurse/Registered Learning Disability Nurse; evidence of continuous professional development.
* Desirable: Specialist Public Health or Community Nursing qualification; post-registration community experience.
Experience
* Essential: evidence of multi-disciplinary working; experience of working with children with complex health and social needs; ability to manage a caseload.
* Desirable: post-registration community experience.
Skills/knowledge
* Essential: ability to manage caseload/workload and resources; delegate appropriately; assessment skills and ability to manage a range of care plans; knowledge of NMC Code of Conduct; knowledge of current NHS and Social Services legislation; ability to teach families, clients and staff; strong written communication; awareness of ethnic minority needs; supervisory capability; knowledge of up-to-date clinical trends relevant to school populations; health and safety responsibility; child protection knowledge.
* Desirable: knowledge of current legislative changes affecting NHS and Social Care; understanding of audit processes.

* Essential: ability to learn and apply knowledge; effective communication with colleagues and children/young people; commitment to teamwork; flexibility to manage change.
