We are seeking an experienced Health Care Assistant to join our clinical team at London Bridge Healthcare. This will include assisting consultants with pre-surgical and post-surgical patient care assessments, wound management, measuring of observations, ECGs, phlebotomy, along with providing effective support to the clinicians and staff. This post will also be shared with the Trial side with a projected 60/40 split in working with London Bridge along with assisting Richmond in clinical trials. With clinical trials you will be working with both volunteers and Clinical Trial Physicians. You will need to interact effectively with all other departments and provide an efficient service to support the delivery of outpatient healthcare and to assist with clinical trials. You will need to familiarise yourself with all SOPs for working within the business, as well as all details specific to the trials you will be working on. This is a physically demanding and intellectually challenging role and represents an excellent opportunity to learn and develop a comprehensive range of clinical and scientific skills. Development will incorporate all elements of working in a clinical environment including QC and Scheduling and may further lead to progression along a clinically specialised career path.
Responsibilities
* Take and record vital signs, including blood pressure, temperature, pulse and respiration rates, and report any changes to medical staff
* Assist consultants in minor procedures
* Maintain appropriate medical records to ensure continuity and quality of care for patients
* Undertake venous bloods as required
* Maintain current skills and undertake training and development as required to maintain personal competency
* Help with basic health care tasks such as changing dressings and collecting samples for testing
* Update patient records, schedule appointments, and maintain a clean and safe environment for patients
* Carry out health care assistant duties in line with daily requirements
* Participate in activities required to assess compliance with CQC essential standards
* Maintain accurate, comprehensive records of all consultations and treatments in the patient’s notes, both written and computerised
* Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient’s health care and registration with the clinic
* Maintain effective liaison with other agencies and staff concerned with patient care and other disciplines within the clinic, with appropriate regard to confidentiality
* Manage maintenance of equipment and stock levels relating to patient care alongside nursing colleagues and the Clinical Services Manager
* Set up and take down medical equipment as required, ensuring that supplies are replenished
* Ensure compliance with patient confidentiality at all times, in line with current legislation
* Ensure all patient information is accurate, easily accessible and kept up-to-date
* Participate in the assessment of the effectiveness of health care provided by the clinic
* Inform the Clinical Services Manager or Head of Private Healthcare of any reported or suspected failings in the provision of care within the clinic
* Take care of your own health and safety, ensuring that you do not compromise the health and safety of colleagues or yourself and following legislation to maintain a safe workplace for all
* Ensure patients’ rights are protected
* Promote and participate in a high standard of care within the clinic
Qualifications
* 2-3 years of Health Care Assistant experience
* Phlebotomy skills
* Previous outpatient experience in supporting vascular, coronary health checks, gynaecology, dermatology
* Up-to-date mandatory training records
* History of assisting consultants during minor procedures
