If so, we want you on our team!\n\n🔍 About the Role\n\nAs a Welfare Benefits Adviser, you'll provide expert, person-centred advice to Care Experienced Young People (CEYP) across Croydon.
You'll help them access their full benefit entitlements, challenge incorrect decisions, and support them through appeals and tribunals. Your work will directly combat poverty and promote independence for young people transitioning into adulthood.\n\nWelfare Benefits Adviser\nPublic Sector - Local Authority \nTemporary Role - currently to April 2026\nFull Time - Monday to Friday, 36 hours per week\nHybrid Working - 3 days in office, 2 days at home\nIT equipment provided\nASAP start \n\n Duties and Responsibilities\n\n1. Provision of Service\n\nDeliver a full welfare benefits casework service including disability benefits, tax credits, and financial support (e.g.
grants, travel, health costs).\nConduct home visits and outreach sessions to promote benefit take-up.\nChallenge incorrect benefit decisions and support clients through appeals and tribunals.\nPrepare and present cases using relevant legislation and case law.\nLiaise with DWP, HMRC, and local council departments on behalf of clients with additional needs (e.g. low literacy, mental health).\n\n2. Service Development\n\nIdentify gaps in advice provision and help establish new services.\nCollect and analyse service data for reporting and evaluation.\nContribute to newsletters and promotional materials.\nAttend steering groups and review meetings with funders and partners.\n\n3.
Administration\n\nMaintain accurate and up-to-date case records (manual and digital).\nUse IT systems for document production and case tracking.\nKeep a reference library of legislation and case law.\nEnsure compliance with Data Protection and confidentiality policies.\n\n🧠 What You'll Bring\n\nIn-depth knowledge of Universal Credit, Housing Benefit, Council Tax Support, and disability-related benefits\nExperience in casework, appeals, and tribunal representation\nAbility to deliver training to professionals and advocate for clients with complex needs\nStrong communication and negotiation skills, with a commitment to diversity and inclusion\nConfidence using IT systems for case recording and reporting\n\n🤝 You'll Work With\n\nCEYP tenants and their families\nSocial workers, housing teams, and voluntary sector partners\nDWP, HMRC, and local authority departments\n\n📌 Special Requirements\n\nFlexibility to work occasional evenings\nAbility to travel independently across the borough\nEnhanced DBS check required \n\nAdecco acts as an employment agency for permanent recruitment and an employment business for the supply of temporary workers.
