East Lothian | Full time | £35,000 + study support
The Explorer Group is Scotland's leading multi-brand franchise operator, proudly running Starbucks, M&S Food and Townhouse Nail Care across the east coast of Scotland. We're growing fast, and because of that growth, we're excited to be recruiting an Assistant Management Accountant to join our close-knit Finance team.
This is a brilliant opportunity for an accountancy graduate or someone early in their finance career who wants real exposure, real responsibility, and the chance to grow with a business that's going places.
You won't be a small cog in a big machine here. You'll work closely with the Management Accountant and Finance Director, get hands-on experience across multiple brands, and play a genuine part in how the business performs.
Why join us?
* A competitive salary £35,000
* Study support is available for the right person
* A supportive, experienced team that wants to see you succeed
* Real variety, from management accounts to working with operational teams
* A growing group with clear ambition and long-term opportunities
* Based in East Lothian with full-time hours and some flexibility on working patterns
The role
Reporting into the Management Accountant, this is a broad, commercially-exposed role where you'll be involved in the day-to-day running of the finance function as well as month-end and year-end processes.
You'll work across our brands, supporting both finance and operations, and helping ensure our numbers are accurate, insightful, and add real value to decision-making.
Your responsibilities will include:
* Supporting the month-end and year-end close
* Preparing and reconciling balance sheet accounts and inter-company balances
* Accruals and prepayments
* Maintaining the fixed asset register
* Processing supplier invoices and managing the purchase ledger
* Providing information for the annual audit
* Analysing overheads and key cost areas
* Supporting annual budget preparation
* Producing quarterly VAT returns
* Processing four-weekly payroll
About you
We're looking for someone who is naturally organised, curious, and takes pride in getting things right.
You might be a recent graduate, actively studying, or already working in an accounts role. What matters most is your attitude, accuracy, and appetite to learn.
You'll ideally have:
* Experience working in an accounts role or through your studies
* A good working knowledge of Excel
* Strong attention to detail and accuracy
* The confidence to communicate with different teams
* The ability to plan your workload in a busy environment
Experience using accounting software and Sage Payroll would be useful, but not essential. We care more about potential than ticking every box
