Time Commitment: 3–4 days per week

Duration: 6-8 weeks



Overview

We are seeking a motivated and highly literate intern from Columbia University to support our work on issues of racial justice, communities of color, and human rights in the lead-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States.



The successful candidate will work with the Chair of the Human Rights and Soccer Alliance (HRSA) group and the Fare network, to assist with research, policy development, and communications as part of a wider campaign that highlights social justice issues linked to the World Cup and its impact on marginalised communities across the US.



This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to work that connects global sport with domestic social change.



Responsibilities

• Conduct desk-based research into racial justice, displacement, immigration, and community engagement related to the World Cup

• Support the drafting of policy briefs, talking points, and campaign materials

• Assist with communications tasks including internal updates and external messaging

• Liaise with stakeholders including civil society groups and football industry professionals

• Monitor relevant news and developments around World Cup 2026 and US sport

• Contribute to planning and coordination for advocacy and public engagement events



Person Specification



Essential

• Currently enrolled at Columbia University, ideally in a relevant discipline

• Demonstrated interest in social justice, human rights, and/or racial equity

• Excellent writing, research and critical thinking skills

• Strong organisational abilities and attention to detail

• Able to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

• Availability to commit 3 (or 4) days per week for the duration of the placement



Desirable

• Familiarity with American soccer and the sports landscape in the US

• Experience working on or studying campaigns, advocacy, or community organising

• Lived experience or strong understanding of issues facing communities of colour in the US
