Clinical Fellow in Anaesthesia, Obstetric Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine University Hospital Wishaw University Hospital Wishaw (UHW) is looking for 3 FT Clinical Fellows to join the existing team of Anaesthetists, and wider multi-disciplinary team, for a fixed term of 12 months. The posts are available from 6 th August 2025. Applicants should hold their IAC and Obstetric IAC at time of commencement of post. The Anaesthetics Department is part of the Surgical & Critical Care Directorate, which provides services within a 12 theatre main operating suite inclusive of 2 maternity theatres. UHW also houses NHS Lanarkshire’s regional maternity unit and the anaesthetic department provides 24/7 resident cover providing all aspects of obstetric anaesthesia. Our maternity unit has approx. 5000 deliveries per year. We have now split our rota so that CEPOD out of hours cover and Obstetric Anaesthetic cover is separate. UHW is Lanarkshire’s trauma unit providing surgical and anaesthetic services for all adult and paediatric trauma patients requiring surgery within NHSL. We also function as a trauma centre, integrated within the Scottish Trauma Network. There is extensive opportunity for regional anaesthesia and there are regular awake upper limb lists. There is a 12 bedded Adult Critical Care Unit admitting both Level 2 and Level 3 patients. Nominally this is split as 5 Level 3 beds and 7 Level 2 beds. On site there is also a 4 bedded surgical Level 1 area and a 12 bedded medical HDU. University Hospital Wishaw is a District General Hospital allowing a varied practice and in addition to above hosts upper and lower general surgery, gynaecology, paediatric services with day case paediatric surgery and trauma and orthopaedic services. We have active acute and chronic pain services. We have a motivated team of consultants with an interest in perioperative medicine and the preassessment clinic incorporates a shared decision making clinic and is supported by a CPET service. Situated in West Central Scotland, University Hospital Wishaw is readily accessed from a wide area. It sits between Glasgow and Edinburgh allowing ready access and commuting from both. The successful applicant would contribute out of hours work to cepod theatre, obstetric and/or intensive care.
