Job Description:
Miryco Consultants are supporting a high-performing and innovative General Insurance firm with significant growth plans. The role offers an excellent opportunity for the successful candidate to grow within the business.
We are looking for a Senior Legal Counsel confident in commercial and corporate legal matters, eager to engage beyond just the basics. Join a collaborative legal team where your opinions matter and your work influences business practices.
You will advise senior stakeholders, negotiate large contracts, and support functions from underwriting to claims and finance, with varied daily tasks.
This company champions hybrid working, requiring presence once per week, or once per month if travel isn't feasible.
Skills required:
* Proven Legal Experience: Experience as an in-house or private practice lawyer handling complex legal issues.
* Qualified & Practised: Qualified Solicitor or Barrister with a solid track record.
* Insurance Industry Know-How: Experience in Insurance, Financial Services, or similar sectors; bonus for experience in Insurance distribution or listed company work.
* Stakeholder Management: Ability to communicate effectively with senior leaders and translate legal jargon into practical advice.
* Coaching & Mentoring Skills: Enjoy developing others and sharing knowledge.
Responsibilities include:
* Providing legal advice across the organization and managing strategic projects.
* Handling commercial contracts including SaaS, IT, licensing, data processing, IP, outsourcing, and loan agreements.
* Collaborating with various business units like Underwriting, Finance, Tax, and Claims.
* Drafting and negotiating a wide range of agreements.
* Managing regulatory challenges from bodies like HMRC and other financial authorities.
* Maintaining legal records and registers.
* Supporting broker and distribution activities, including consumer lending and CCJs.
* Conducting legal research and providing legal advice on diverse issues.
* Advising on regulatory matters, including FCA and other financial regulators.
* Leading negotiations and drafting of commercial contracts.
* Providing advice on corporate law and strategic matters.
* Drafting policies, procedures, and ensuring legislative compliance.
* Managing legal documentation and litigation records.
* Engaging with departments to mitigate risks related to CCJs and credit ratings.
* Supporting the Group General Counsel and deputizing as needed.
* Mentoring junior team members and fostering a collaborative environment.
* Handling legal procedures related to bailiffs and court decisions.
* Ensuring compliance with health and safety policies and standards.
Experience, knowledge & skills:
* Qualified Lawyer (Solicitor or Barrister) in England & Wales or equivalent.
* Approximately 5+ years PQE, with in-house or private practice experience preferred.
* Strong background in insurance, financial services, or regulated environments.
* Proficient in negotiating commercial outsourcing contracts.
* Excellent communication, research, and organizational skills.
* Commercial awareness and risk management skills.
* Experience mentoring or managing junior legal staff.
