About the Role
Reporting to the Maintenance Team Leader, the Multi Skilled Technician is responsible for examination and maintenance tasks on various GWR fleet units and third-party vehicles. Working according to Train Vehicle Maintenance Instructions, a strong focus on safety, teamwork, and service delivery is essential.
Main Responsibilities
1. Perform safety-critical and non-safety-critical tasks on different traction types, in line with your competence.
2. Complete maintenance examinations.
3. Carry out heavy component replacements.
4. Conduct maintenance activities, fault finding, rectification, and defect reporting.
5. Attend to out-of-course failures on the main line.
6. Ensure rail vehicles are safe to move after maintenance, following local procedures, including 'Safety of Line' checks prior to movement.
Candidate Requirements
* Awareness of safety standards and responsibilities.
* Customer-focused mindset, understanding the depot's impact on passengers.
* Ability to read and interpret engineering schematic drawings.
* Skill in investigating, identifying, and repairing mechanical and electrical faults.
* Flexibility and willingness to go the extra mile.
* Commitment to 6S and continuous improvement.
* Willingness to work at other locations outside Exeter when required.
Minimum Qualifications
* NVQ Level 3 or apprenticeship in Electrical/Mechanical disciplines (preferably both for a multi-skilled role).
* Previous experience in rolling stock maintenance.
* Desirable: NEBOSH/IOSH training.
* Desirable: Participation in Business Improvement Training (BIT).
Additional Information
This role offers the opportunity to gain experience working on various fleet types, including HST, 150s, Class 802, Voyagers, and Class 08.
