Project Officer - The W ashwood heath A daption & S ustainability H ub (WASH) Norton Hall Children & Family Centre Based at The Dolphin Centre, Washwood Heath, East Birmingham Full-time (37.5 hours per week) £26,403 – £28,142 (pro rata, dependent on experience), plus 3% contributions to pension scheme) 3-year fixed term contract About the role We’re looking for someone with horticulture/environment knowledge and skills who genuinely loves being outdoors, working with people, and making a difference in their community. You will play a role in helping local people connect with nature, build confidence, and learn new skills. No two days will look the same. One day you might be leading a environmental session with children, the next running a community work party to improve biodiversity, or food growing activities on the allotment. If you’re someone who enjoys being hands-on, working with purpose, and seeing real impact, this could be a great fit. About us At Norton Hall, we support women, children and families across Ward End and Alum Rock to overcome barriers and improve their life chances. Last year alone, we supported over 1,900 people. The WASH project is a big part of that. It brings together nature, climate learning, food growing and community action to create real opportunities for local people. Our work is rooted in the community. Many of the people we support face challenges such as unemployment, language barriers, and isolation, and we’re here to create safe, welcoming spaces where they can grow in confidence and feel part of something and improve a community green space. Who we’re looking for Experience delivering environmental, outdoor or horticultural activities Experience working with volunteers or community groups Confidence working with people who may face barriers, including SEND or language barriers A good understanding of nature, biodiversity, sustainability and/or climate change. Strong people skills and the ability to build trust with a wide range of people The ability to be hands on, proactive and organised and manage a varied workload It’s a bonus if you have: Forest School or bushcraft experience Experience working in diverse inner-city communities Ability to speak Urdu/community languages What it’s like to work here We’re a supportive, friendly team who genuinely care about the work we do and the people we support.
