Purpose of the role
Enterprise Architects are senior experts in technology architecture responsible for defining the current and future state of the technology architecture, including the proposing solutions and roadmaps to achieve the desired outcomes. The purpose of the Enterprise Architect for Internal Shared Systems is to provide architectural design leadership as well as lead on implementation strategies / approaches for architecture work for Internal Shared Systems. This Enterprise Architect will focus primarily on internal facing shared systems such as Finance and ERP (SAP), People (Workday), Publishing, Supply Chain and Warehouse Management/Distribution systems. This role requires a designer who can bridge the gap between business needs and technology solutions, integrating across various technology platforms. They will play a key role in transforming the enterprise technology landscape, driving innovation, and helping the organisation meet its technology aspirations.
The Enterprise Architect for Internal Shared Systems will act as an Enterprise level Design Lead for Internal Facing Shared Systems such as SAP, Workday, publishing and Logistics and Planning tooling supporting the Operations, Finance and HR teams. Two main programmes planned to commence in 2026 are an SAP S/4 HANA implementation and a large scale Publishing Systems transformation programme and this EA will play a fundamental role in both.
Key accountabilities
* Target Architecture: Develop and maintain target architecture that aligns with business goals and technological advancements for Operations, Finance, HR and other internal facing business units.
* Architecture Design: Lead the design of complex architectures, including cloud solutions, data platforms, and integration frameworks, ensuring scalability, performance, and security.
* Technology Roadmap: Create and manage a technology roadmap that guides the evolution of systems and ensures alignment with enterprise objectives in support of Business Units and Core Technology goals and objectives.
* Governance and Standards: Establish and enforce architectural principles, standards, guidelines, and best practices to ensure consistency and quality across technology projects.
* Solution Delivery: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver integrated technology solutions that meet business requirements and enhance user experience.
* Innovation and Research: Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends to drive continuous innovation and improvement of technology capabilities.
* Risk Management: Identify and mitigate architectural risks, ensuring compliance with regulatory and security requirements.
* Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with key stakeholders to gather requirements, provide architectural guidance, and ensure alignment with business and IT strategies.
Essential knowledge
* A strong understanding of enterprise, solution, and technology architecture methodologies.
* Logical and physical design, architecture and specification of IT solutions in complex multi-vendor environments involving the integration of legacy, cloud and SaaS applications.
* SAP ERP, finance (and any warehousing/logistics solutions would be a nice to have).
* Cloud Technologies: Proficient in cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and associated services.
* Data Management: Understanding of data governance, data architecture, and analytics.
* Integration Patterns: Familiarity with enterprise integration patterns, API management, and microservices.
* Cybersecurity: Knowledge of security architecture and practices to protect technology assets.
* Business Processes: Understanding of business process management and how technology can drive business transformation.
Essential skill(s) & experience
* Architecture Documentation: Extensive experience documenting architecture artefacts including Solution Designs, Options Papers, Roadmaps, Target Architectures.
* Technical Expertise: Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing technology architectures in a complex enterprise environment.
* Agile and Project Delivery: Experience delivering technology solutions in both agile and project methods. Experience delivering SAP (or other large scale ERP initiatives) is very useful.
* Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
* Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a strategic mindset.
* Leadership: Experience leading cross-functional teams and driving organizational change.
* Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; Master’s degree or relevant certifications (e.g., TOGAF, AWS Certified Solutions Architect) preferred.
