Band 4 - Assistant Practitioner, MSK Outpatient Physiotherapy
We have a fixed‑term opportunity for a dynamic and enthusiastic Assistant Practitioner to join a friendly and forward‑thinking Outpatient Physiotherapy department at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
Job Summary
Posted: 04 December 2025. Salary: £28,860 to £31,671 a year inclusive of HCA. Contract: Fixed term, 12 months. Working pattern: Full‑time, flexible. Location: Jacketts Field, Abbots Langley, WD5 0PA.
The post is based at our Jacketts Field, Abbots Langley site. You will work in a busy, friendly Outpatient Physiotherapy Department, supported by a Band 7/6 qualified Physiotherapist through a well‑established supervision process. Robust training support is provided, along with in‑service training opportunities. Existing experience will be further developed in both 1:1 and class/group based clinical activities.
Key Responsibilities
* Assess, treat, progress and discharge routine MSK patients – trauma and elective post‑operative orthopaedic presentations.
* Run group exercise sessions – for example TKR classes and lower limb classes.
* Support qualified staff in joint treatment sessions as appropriate.
* Maintain own caseload and manage priorities independently.
* Report progress or changes from expected findings to a qualified Physiotherapist.
* Employ clinical reasoning to utilise a range of assessment and treatment skills to formulate treatment programmes.
Person Specification
Essential
* Good general education up to GCSE or equivalent.
* NVQ level III in health‑related subject or equivalent qualification.
* Significant experience as a therapy or nursing assistant in the NHS.
* Experience of managing and prioritising own caseload.
* Previous NHS experience.
* Knowledge of the therapy assistant role within rehab and discharge planning.
Desirable
* Evidence of recent study in healthcare and/or rehabilitation.
* Knowledge of local services for onward referral.
* Experience of outcome measures and common rehab techniques.
