The role will operate a plant and manage a production shift team, acting as the most senior person on site outside normal hours.
What You’ll Be Doing
* Lead a shift of process technicians and, when needed, work on an individual basis.
* Operate a range of complex process plants to agreed standards by following site procedures and instructions.
* Plan and organise work and materials during the shift; prepare for the oncoming shift.
* Routinely follow written and verbal instructions to run plants safely and efficiently.
* Promote safe behaviour, set high standards, and avoid substandard work, especially regarding rules and procedures.
* Identify risks and problems; decide on corrective actions or escalate to line management.
* Suggest and implement safety and efficiency improvements, often involving multi-disciplinary teams.
* Communicate effectively with the production team and other site functions (maintenance, planning, logistics) via verbal, email, and written channels.
* Be accountable for own health and safety and for others affected by actions.
* Make routine decisions on plant and site service operations following procedures.
* Plan and organise work and materials on own shift and prepare for the next shift to achieve site logistics and production plans.
* Train, develop, and coach new recruits, including objective setting, appraisals, and first-line disciplinary action.
* Risk assess activities and advise on risk reduction; issue permits to work for production plants.
* Carry out agreed analytical testing; identify and respond to emergency situations and follow emergency procedures, including liaising with emergency services and regulatory bodies (HSE, EA, etc.).
Qualifications
* Good communication skills; effective problem solver with strong attention to detail.
* Ability to work flexibly and organise workload as required.
* Computer literate.
* Experience of working on a chemical site is advantageous.
* Forklift truck (counterbalance) license is advantageous.
* City & Guilds qualification in Process Operations, NVQ level 2 in Process Operations, or higher education qualification is advantageous.
* Knowledge of SAP is desirable but not essential.
