Description

This is an exciting chance to be part of a progressive and cutting‑edge University in a beautiful location, where you can really make a difference.

The School of Biological and Marine Sciences at the University of Plymouth www.plymouth.ac.uk/schools/school-of-biological-and-marine-sciences is seeking to appoint a new lecturer to further enhance our expertise in Marine Science.

About the role

We are seeking candidates with expertise in geodesy, geomatics, and the application of geospatial technologies to the coastal and marine environment. Experience in integrating AI into geospatial workflows is highly desirable.

For this position we especially value candidates with established industry collaborations or partnerships.

You will be:

* A highly motivated and dynamic academic who seeks the opportunity to build a career in a University with an outstanding international reputation in marine science.
* Expected to deliver high‑quality research and teaching while becoming an active and productive member of the School’s academic community.

This role forms part of the newly created Centre for Coastal and Ocean Processes and Engineering (C-COPE), one of six centres of research excellence within the Faculty of Science and Engineering that have been recognised of strategic importance to the University.

This appointment will complement and build on our existing research and teaching strengths. Our marine science team has internationally recognised expertise in coastal processes, physical processes in marine systems, the role of dynamic processes in the marine ecosystem and assessing human impacts in that environment, and a growing expertise in marine autonomous systems.

This role is closely aligned to our BSc programmes in Ocean Science, Ocean Exploration and Surveying and Ocean Science and Marine Conservation, and the postgraduate programmes, MSc Applied Marine Science and MSc Hydrography.

You will:

* Deliver teaching in the theory, acquisition and analysis of marine geospatial data, and across all aspects of physical oceanography.
* Have a doctoral degree in a relevant field, supported by experience at postdoctoral or equivalent level.
* Have an excellent research track record demonstrated through high calibre outputs of a quality likely to contribute to our future UK Research Excellence Framework (REF) submission.
* Have clear evidence of successful grant applications as a PI is desirable.

The successful candidates may be required to obtain an ATAS Certificate prior to this research being undertaken.

You will be based at the University of Plymouth city centre campus. Although we can accommodate working from home for this role, flexibility to be on‑site will be expected due to business needs.
