Mechanical Design Engineer – c£38k – Milton Keynes
Our niche sector market leading client has been established in Milton Keynes since the late 1800's and supply their innovative and unique solutions to more than 150 countries. They are seeking to recruit a dynamic and articulate Mechanical Design Engineer to complement their R&D team. Reporting to the Design and Development Manager, the successful candidate will support the global group in all aspects of both new product design and development as well as existing product enhancements and improvements, being responsible for the mechanical design, product build and test of new ideas from concept through to production.
The role supports custom projects and new product development initiatives, developing concept designs to pre-production release, reviewing the current product range, identifying improvements, and actively contributing in daily projects that meet customer requirements and drive growth.
Responsibilities
* New Product Development – translate product visions to life, generate new mechanical solutions, conduct analysis and simulations to validate design feasibility and performance, prototype, test, and validate new designs, and support the transition from development to manufacturing ensuring seamless production.
* Custom Project Support – collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand project requirements, conduct feasibility studies and technical evaluations, develop conceptual and detailed designs using Solidworks, create and review engineering drawings, specifications and documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance with standards and regulations; data management with Solidworks PDM is advantageous.
* Project Design Management – track project progress, identify risks and implement mitigation strategies, assist with design files, specifications and reports, and create fully detailed, tested and production-ready Solution Specifications including 3D CAD models, fully dimensioned drawings, assembly drawings, BOMs and test data (to BS8888/ISO standards).
Qualifications
* At least 3 years of Mechanical Engineering design experience with proven projects from concept to delivery
* Proficient in Solidworks with strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
* Knowledge of manufacturing processes including plastic moulding, CNC machining, casting and sheet metal forming
* Experience with system design with interfaces to electrical, electronics and control is advantageous
