Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Procurement & Commercial Manager or Head of Procurement & Commercial to play a pivotal role in delivering major onshore transmission infrastructure projects. This senior leadership position is responsible for the full lifecycle of procurement and post‑contract commercial management, driving value, consistency, and innovation across the portfolio. This role will be based in either Glasgow or Perth (Scotland). This is one year contract Inside IR35.
You will help shape and embed a world‑class Procurement & Commercial function—one that reduces total cost of ownership, supports strategic priorities, and ensures the successful delivery of major capital programmes.
Key Responsibilities
As a senior leader reporting to the Director of Procurement & Commercial, Onshore Delivery, you will provide hands‑on commercial leadership across large‑scale transmission projects.
Commercial Leadership
* Full commercial accountability for the delivery of one or more mega infrastructure projects (£1bn+), covering Overhead Lines, Substations and Underground Cabling.
* Lead and oversee disciplined cost control, commercial governance, and accurate forecasting.
* Drive robust commercial and contracting strategies, ensuring end‑to‑end procurement excellence aligned with business needs and corporate governance.
Procurement & Contract Management
* Lead procurement activities from strategy through to contract award and execution, ensuring alignment with NEC contract frameworks.
* Manage key supplier and contractor relationships, fostering high performance and continuous improvement.
* Identify and mitigate commercial risks, resolve disputes, and drive commercially sound solutions.
Stakeholder & Team Contribution
* Act as a key member of a multi‑disciplinary team, providing expert commercial insight and leadership.
* Foster internal and external collaboration to secure the best possible outcomes for the Transmission business.
Experience & Expertise
* A seasoned commercial practitioner with substantial hands‑on experience (beyond people management alone).
* Proven delivery of £1bn+ capital infrastructure projects in the UK, in both pre‑ and post‑contract phases, within demanding timescales.
* Deep expertise using NEC contracts, including negotiation, contract management, claim resolution, and risk management.
* Strong background as the commercial lead responsible for procurement, negotiation, supplier management, subcontractor oversight, and strategic decision‑making.
Skills & Approach
* Professional, dynamic, and agile—able to drive commercial strategy from development through execution.
* Ability to manage complex financial, operational and commercial factors to inform responsible decisions.
* Skilled in claims preparation, management, and resolution while upholding ethical and business‑critical standards.
Qualifications
* FRICS / MRICS, a Degree in Quantity Surveying, or equivalent membership of a recognised professional body
